Horsecollar is currently a level 31 LOLB. He has 58 speed, 58 agility and 58 vision with strength and tackling soft capped.

With my 3 boosts next season i was initially putting them evenly into speed/agility/vision. But do i really need more than 58 speed?

I'm only ever covering the TE and HB and i'm never beaten, and it's only for minimal gain. I could sure use these points elswhere for something more valuable. How much speed do you guys think is enough?

consider the difference of getting to a play half a yard or a yard sooner. That's speed. That can the difference between a 1st down and a punt, or a missed FG and a made one. It's not always about getting to the play, but about getting to the play sooner.

no such thing as too much speed as long as the other skills are well trained also

Wow, so no-one actually answered my question!

I said how much speed is generally needed to cover the HB/TE without anything going majorly wrong. 55? 60? 70+?

60+ and youll be able to hang with majority of all HB/TE but don't forget about agility.

Also don't forget about jumping, diving tackles can help cover for lower speed but only a little though.

You're actually talking about AGI or acceleration in this statement. Blocking a FG or stuffing the ball carrier at the line is about how quick you get there, which is essentially AGI or acceleration in this league.

But to answer the question, it really depends on how the players are you are doing. I play LOLB, so I do a ton of covering on the TEs. But I sometimes get beat on curls. I think it's because I have 60 SPD and only 50 AGI. My momentum is too quick for me to stop on a dime and turn with the TE. I think to be successful your stats need to be virtually even between SPD and AGI. I'll have more with you later on in the next season as my three boosts will go into AGI.

My linebackers were much more effective in season 4 at 66 speed 55 agility rather than 56 speed 64 agility.

This was after 70 speed 50 agility in season 3.

Well, actually I guess I'd be talking about both SPD and AGI. You can never have too much.

I did an agility > speed experiment last season. Didnt work. I found the best results with even speed/agility.

All 4 of my LBs are 70+ speed and make lots of tackles going east/west on the field. Also, they can hang with the TE/WR on pass coverage.

Like someone else said, you can never have too much speed as a LB.

You need to get agility, strength, tackling, speed, vision to the softcap at a minimum, but speed helps overcome a lot.

Work on skills before SA's. I have one LB with a decent amt of SA pt and the other 3 with none and they do just as good as a job as the one with the SA pts.

1-on-1 I'd say 60-65 speed is a good number to hang with most TE's. If you play a lot of cover 2 against the pass then you can get away with less.

Ultimately it gets too costly to keep speed and agility at 1:1. I agree with OMG that +5 on speed > agility is good. Too much speed as a LOLB and you will be great agains the run, however, a receiving TE with quick cut will burn you for many more yards than you save with the run. Bort, mentioned an EQ upgrade that allowed you to use other positions SA's. Not sure if this is myth, however, if quick cut becomes available to LB's I will definitely get it.
