Are there any out there? Have you had success? I'm thinking of sitting around 35 catching at level 24, just wondering if anyone else has tried that path.

I have one. Granted, I just boosted to 20 as the playoffs started, but I was also in the slot this year on a very run heavy team. I managed to get into the league leaders board in TD's but definitely had a few drops along the way.

I'm at level 21 an was playing around 38 catching.
You will be fine at 35+. My biggest issue was morale. I lost so much, it started to affect my play. You can check my game log to see I had a 4 catch 174 game.

Season 4 capped catching (and very minor upgrades in 2 other areas)

Though I'm not at your level, I am on the same page. Let me know how it goes. I'm guessing the only reason to boost your catching to the cap in your situation is if you plan to put points in the possession SA's not named Route Run.

Since catching increases the radius of passes you can catch, to be able to keep your catching at 35 you'll need a very accurate QB.

I have one and it was a mistake I drop alot and will now have to add alot of points to catching.

For a possession receiver, what kind of catching do you want to aim for at level 30?

At least!

And you can't really compare Season 3 to Season 4 as far as passing and WRs, as they are two completely different animals.

Anyone else want to chime in? If 50 is it, that's a pretty sad indictment for the catching ability. That's what 10 or less points invested with the rest coming from training and natural level up?

Is a possession receiver just a slow speedster receiver who evenly distributes what he would have spent on extra speed into the other major and minor skill categories? That's what it seems like.

No. Most people just seem to build their possession WRs badly.
I've always said that catching only increases the radius of passes you can catch. Check out this guy, he has 73 catching but had 19 drops this season!

Well that's because most people don't realise that speed is paramount for a WR regardless of what type of build.
When building my possession WR, I was aiming for a similar WR to the possession WR in the player build guide:

Not really, would certainly class you as a speedster Vis. A possession receiver your probably looking at equipment in agility, 2nd cap in agility, speed/vision/catching/jumping softcapped, 30+ odd strength. Almost there with my guy now, finally got the catching up and just need to hit the vision and 2nd agility caps.

Was hopeless for a long time admittedly. Last boost he finally looked to be starting to come into shape and brings in 5-6 plays a game now on a run heavy team, lots of short yards to be had. Think when I get to boost him next season he'll be a constant threat at last. Advantages would be very few drops from the build, down side is no big yards. Think a team would be deadly with both options around.

Does make them hard to pick up on those short routes .
