I've moved the settings from medium to long and he still gets beaten by a WR sometimes. Is this just due to the settings or is it an issue with the FS not spotting the WR getting deep.

There is an issue with safeties not picking up streak receivers. They bite on the inside man (whether it be another wr or te) far more than they should, even if the other receiver is the deep route or first in the zone.

There's going to be about 10 more people posting in this thread that's going to say it's your safeties build. It's not.

Yeah I didn't think it was the FS's build but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't an issue with him. is there a work around on this right now or do you have to go to another cover scheme such as the cover 3 to get this down?

I haven't found a way to fix it, no. I still use primarily cover 2 however, as I tend to staff safeties quick enough that the rare occasion it does happen it isn't a catastrophe. I have seen it cause huge gains and td's on other teams though.

To be fair, I looked at the starting FS on both teams that you GM, and on the lower team, he has an open build, which is very mediocre. On the higher team, he has a pass defense scouting bar equal to my level 17 FS. I realize scouting bars mean very little, but it's at least an indication of his speed/agility, which appears to be too low for his league.


I'm not saying there isn't an issue with FS not covering the deepest man, but I haven't really noticed it myself. My own FS starts on the team I GM for, and he's only got 34 vision. (Lvl 17) ... So I doubt that anyone claiming vision as an issue would be correct.

That's fine, but if you look at the FS's on my teams it happens as well, and it's not their builds.

All of their builds should be closed, but as you said, you can get a general idea from the scouting bars.

Edit: I just looked at a few of your plays and your team runs out of cover 1. The issue is with the cover 2 shell.

Yeah. Go back 3 games and it's cover 2 all season.


I have seen my FS breaking onto a shorter WR, but it's never caused a deep pass completion. I was assuming he was making his "vision check" and reading the play properly, or reading the QB's telegraphed passes, but maybe not.

I don't know, but my FS seems to make some crazy reads sometimes. If it's an inside run, sometimes he will read it right off the bat and run right toward the middle of the line, as if he were blitzing. (And we of course have 0 blitzes with the FS)

lol at the dumbass team running a cover 2 vs. 3 WR

I didnt know running a cover 2 vs 3 WRs was a dumbass thing to do. Seems to work out for everyone I have seen use it.

In general, the SIM has the FS play like this:
- if WR3 goes deep - cover that guy
- if WR1 goes deep, the TE comes over or the HB goes deep - try to stay in a spot where he can reach both receivers (this resulting in the FS staying "in between" the two WRs)

after looking at the issue I believe it is more the fact that my FS is slow. I knew he was under leveled against our competition but wanted another opinion as I saw in some of our games where we beat a cover 2 in a similar fashion.

That sums it up pretty nicely. That's the problem though, the FS on a cover 2 shouldn't hedge his bets and play in between two in his zone trying to split the receivers. If you get a fast receiver/te/hb on a streak he'll slice right through it and cause a huge disruption. In a cover 2 the safeties have to keep the deep man in front of them, if they don't their not doing their job.

yeah, its a way to get pretty much blanket coverage on every WR with minimum number of CBs.
