there's a lot of very successful powerbacks, and there are your run of the mill speedy types, but does anyone employ HB that can catch and carry?

and how successful are they as backup TE/WR?

reason why i ask: there's very few, if any, threads about them

Right now my power HB has a 75% catch stat (2 drops to 8 catches).

It's hard to balance out putting points in catching VS speed/agi/carry, but it seems to be the case that HB doesn't need to worry about getting open if he catches in or near the backfield. Here, a lot of speed may be a bad thing. At least in the WR forum it's been mention that it's thought too much speed, and not a lot of catch will cause drops.

So powerbacks may be the obvious choice to go here.

powerbacks (true powerbacks) lack speed, wouldn't it be better to go agile and use what sufficient strength and speed needed to go past the OLB and CB?

eg.
agility 70+
speed 45+
str 45+ (should help in carrying too)
catching 45+

and will vision be important in the backfield?

The thing is Mango, it's that much harder to catch the pass once the defender gets to you to cover. So you have to be slow enough to not be at the line before the QB throws you the ball (imo). So maybe 70+ agi, 30ish speed, 48+ vision and a lot of head fake.

hmmm.. sounds like
agility 70+
speed 35 max
strength 40+
vision 48+
and lots of head fake and maybe juke with combo running

this sounds promising, thanks radardog

If you do build a dual threat HB, put points in juke so he can make plays like this:

My back has all of 25 in catching and it seems to do him dandy in the flats. Having said that, he's been sent on routes in the slot and has dropped every pass.

You just have to ask yourself how you could use a catching back to your advantage. In the NFL, OCs motion guys like Westbrook into the slot to create matchup problems. That's not possible in GLB.

So put him in as a backup WR? What can he do that a dedicated backup WR can't? The only real advantage would be that you're saving yourself the trouble and money of having to recruit another WR, which is minimal.

Most of all, you have to weigh the benefits of capping catching/jumping when those points could go to making him a better ball carrier in speed/agility/strength.

My opinion is "nay".

This is hands down the best HB passing play in the game right now (not my player, the play).

This was last season, would have been a TD but that FS was a rocket. I imagine with a HB with higher catching and speed you could run this regularly and make big gains.

my team during some games put me at TE so we could confuse the other teams scouts, but it worked for several plays

My HB's doing pretty well catching out of the backfield with a 9.8 yards per catch average and a 8 YAC average. I'm thinking about passing to him more and going for the Marshall Faulk type season with 1000 rushing yards and 1000 receiving yards.

This should've been a TD:

Nice! At first I thought was just from playing gutted teams, but he didn't get a reception in that 166-0 game.
Your HB definitely has a chance for a 1000 rushing and receiving yards season.
