Forum > Position Talk > FB Club > Question: Will a FB make a good kick/punt returner if he's built that way ?

Under the current system I don't know (with Linemen returning kicks and knocking ppl down like bowling pins). But what if they actually do change something and make it so only HB/FB/TE/WR/CB/FS/SS can return?(which I am personally in favor of) Will a high strength/carrying/agility/speed FB have good chances then? (was thinking about building one to return)

In theory it should work, but it will depend on the level of talent you play against and whether there's any "out of position" penalty for a FB returning kicks.

There should be no penalty for a FB returning a kick. While it is not something you would actually see there would be no reason not to do it if that was they way he was built.

Well, heres my reasoning: The FB will be cheaper to boost than the HB, and its only 2 steps on the SA tree for him to get to Power-Thru .

Ive thought that myself. Let us know how it works out. THere shouldnt be any penalty because everyone has to play special teams at some point.

Reuben Droughns returned kicks when he was on the Broncos as their 2nd string FB, so I don't think there should be a penalty.

Strength is softcapped, working on intense speed/agility now... then SP dump...
I still think this may be a viable build. FB's can break alot of tackles... can u imagine having a FB as punt-returner who breaks 4 tackles on average per return? (Who also has speed to get the yards)

My guy works as a bit of a clean-up guy, but is second in PR average in his conference. Our main PR guy is a HB that works as a third HB and back-up FB with high strength. Until bort really changes things with more directional returns, ect.... you need a guythat can break the first tackle to get any real yards usually IMO

ummmmm i did break one, but yes a lot of that was my team. The point was to illustrate that fb's can return kicks fairly effectively. The team that we were playing was receiving top 10 votes before we beat them so they are no pushover.

My fb returns kicks and does pretty good, since he is a blocking back that has good speed and strength he does ok. Actually had a return for a td last season.
