Gotham (AP)-- In their first home playoff game in franchise history, Gotham City made it look easy.
In a 80-0 clobbering, the Punishers are licking their lips in anticipation for next week's matchup against one of the most well-regarded teams of the league, the Coruscant Deathstars.
The offensive juggernaut was led by Andrew Hatch and the vicious combo of Kenny Mayne and Baby Carrot. Hatch, who only threw 13 TD's in the regular season, even impressed himself with his solid play, throwing 4 touchdowns against a starstruck Mile High Mustangs Defense. "I think I've shifted into the next gear, and I'm not easing up on the gas until we've got a trophy."
The Gotham Defense was solid, posting a shutout. In one of their most dominating performances of the year, defensive icon Drago Buschanovich picked off a pass and a pair of solo tackles. The foreigner remarked, "WE HURT THEM REAL GOOD. WE TEAM EXPECT CHAMPIONSHIPINGS."
The brightest light on a midnight Mile High team was Champion Bailey, who recorded an impressive 13 tackles, and broke up 4 passes by himself. "You know, we've got a lot of talent, and we're still putting it all together. We're where Gotham was last year, we'll be where they are now in a year."
In a surprise role-reversal, Dan Miller lead the team in receptions, while Andy Bailey was the leader in yards. Both players combined for 21 catches, 335 yards and 4 TD's. In his best game of the season, however, Dan Miller is deeply dissatisfied with his play today, and indeed all season. With 4 drops, Miller said "I didn't deserve to play today."
Now the Punishers will prepare to host their biggest rival, the Coruscant Deathstars. In last year's playoffs, the Punishers found themselves traveling to Coruscant for their franchise first playoff game. The upstart Punishers' high hopes were disappointed by a humbling 22-9 loss. Earlier in this season the Punishers took a close win by 20-17 in Coruscant, their defining win of the season, and the reason why many other BBB#6 teams consider the Punishers a real threat.
Coach Claylick of the Ragin Cajuns said "We beat them in the regular season, but it seems they're very anxious for a rematch. The hunger and strive of the team is impressive, and if the scenario arrives, I can't wait to host them here in Louisiana.
Harley Petit, a vocal leader of the team's offense and just 3 touchdowns behind Andy Bailey as the team's all time receiving TD scorer, has made the team's new motto "No Excuses". In a more controversial vein, Petit called Josh Fant and Aayla Secura of the Deathstars on 3-way later after the Milwaukee game, and said "When I run you over in this game, there will be No Excuses." Fant spoke many severe words and reminded Petit of his catchless game when the Punishers beat the Deathstars.
Petit has stated that his comments were competitive and light-hearted in context. Fant has declined any comment on the situation.
Needless to say, both teams are looking towards the definitive game of the year, where the winner will either visit Louisiana or host Seattle in the Western Conference championship.
