Probably wildly off, and not using any simulator. But I took a shot at guessing the pre-season, did some mid-season guesswork, and have a little time, so here's my playoff picks for the first round, excluding us.
Rapid City vs. Chicago: Chicago fan though I may be, just from the city name and their record when I pick them, Rapid City is a tough draw. A little too tough here. Especially since I see Rapid City advancing to the final.
Anchorage vs. WCBW: Vikings weren't boosted last time, it can all change now, etc., etc.... whatever. Sure, it could all change, but Anchorage isn't where they are for no reason, and I think their game planning pays off here. It'll be one of the best games of the season though, so watch this one close.
Caprica vs. USMC: USMC made huge strides this season, and may well take a home game next season. Caprica did take a home game, again, and deservedly so. Caprica wins this one, but USMC keeps it respectable and within 2 scores.
DVDCTalk vs. Sioux Falls: Sioux Falls is another team that will see people coming to their house for these parties before too long. This season its the Otters who move on though.
Most likely upset: WCBW over Anchorage, with an honorable mention to the scrappers from USMC.
New Brunswick vs. Scranton Wilkes-Barre: The Menzingers, with no insult intended, are just happy to be here after their third straight roller-coaster of a season. They'll put up a fight, but NBSK cruises.
Miami Hammerheads vs. Gulf State Demons: This could steal some thunder from the west for game of the day. Two hard-nosed teams who both earned every win on their schedule to get here. Between home field, some late season highs, and having the tougher game to finish the season keeping them in top game planning form I give this to the sharks, but would not be at all surprised if that's by a field goal in the last second of overtime.
Salem vs. Miami: Momentum and recent history have to be on the Hawks' side here. Is there anyone else this side of NBSK that Miami would rather have avoided in the first round? Salem also rides in having won when they had to to hang onto home field this time around, while the Makos opened where they left off last season, then backed into the playoffs on the strength of a dominant first half. Both deserve to be here, but the Makos will have to regain their early season form to move on - wheras Salem just needs to keep on rolling.
