Hi guys,
This idea came about because I would beg to differ with posters from another conference---IMHO your League is one of the strongest, if not THE strongest, in the BBB leagues, recent tournament results notwithstanding. After all, it takes something for a conference to be 50% of a Final Four in ANY competitive tournament.
OTOH, I think OUR League doesn't get a lot of press and I think we're actually a pretty good League too--we just don't tend to go off into other League Forums and shoot our mouths off. I thought it would be fun to get a number of our League's teams to match up with similar teams from another League, and if we're going to take on a project like that, we might as well match up with the best.
In order to try and have teams of similar caliber matched up, we'd have teams eliminated from the playoffs match up against their counterparts in the two leagues. For example, the loser of the #1 vs. #8 game in the East for BBB#7 would play the loser of the same game (East #1 vs. #8) in BBB#5. This way as soon as the playoff game is over, the teams that are eliminated can easily see who they are supposed to match up against and can go ahead and set up a friendly without having to wait for a bracket to be published. With 8 losers in the first round, 4 in the second, 2 in the Conference Championship round, and then the League Champion and Runner-ups to fill out the field, there are potentially 16 games between our leagues, which (although it could conceivably end in a tie) would likely give one league bragging rights---but more importantly I think it would be a lot of fun and get teams that normally are plotting against each other to root each other on.
I posted something about this in our League's Forum and a number of the East teams have already expressed interest. We'll see how it goes.
Of course, you don't have to have "official" sanction to pursue this idea. If you lose a playoff game, you could simply challenge your BBB#7 counterpart to a friendly whether they've heard about this or not. Worst thing that can happen is they turn it down....
And, finally, for the record, it was a privilege to play a game against the Skulls considering their very accomplished record of success over many seasons. I have to admit (and I told Minn this in a PM) that I thought I would be sending one of those "lose with dignity" congratulatory messages to him after this game. It turned out very differently than I thought it would---although I'll stop short of complaining to the management!
