i have a problem with my linebacker. he always takes 3 or 4 steps back like hes defending a pass before he reacts to the ball. he has vision softcapped so i dont think its from the lack of vision. i also have my AI set for defend run first. but this still dosent seem to help. i make lot of plays due to my speed. but i also put myself out of a lot of plays because i dont react properly. anybody have any ideas or suggestions? here are a few plays of what im talking about.

I've noticed the same problems, I don't really know what's causing it but like your guy, speed has saved mine on occasion as well. I have a feeling if he reacted to run plays first when tactics are set to Run that he'd have a lot more TFL, but dropping back 5-10 yards to defend the pass then having to make up that distance all the while the RB gaining 3-5 yards on the carry sucks.

My only guess is the play calling, supposed to drop into a zone or cover a certain player. Seems like you are reacting relatively quickly, on the last play looks like if you went to the line quicker the FB would have picked you up, looks like the HB out ran his blocking, not good. The other OLBs appear to be moving just like your guy, start to drop back and then change direction. Not sure if there is anything you can do about it unfortunately.

Yeah, my guy does the same. He just runs back and tries to mimic the FS but in a shorter zone.

Wanted my guy to hover around the line and stuff the run. But he runs back every play pretty much regardless.

my guy does it too! i hate it. the only reason he will get tackles is because his speed is ridiculously high and he can fly up to the ball.

i think all linebackers do it, mine does too, but could also be the team defensive tactics

I noticed when our DC had our tactics set to favor pass defense, this happened on just about every play. We're playing a run-heavy team next and are setting out tactics, both team and individual to focus on that accordingly so I'll let you know what happens.

Any Defensive Coordinators to comment on this?

Wait are you saying if the DC sets your tactics to favor the pass it'll override player settings the vast majority of the time?

Unless you are coming in on a blitz, the LB will often fall back into coverage.

It sure seems to me like the DC settings take precedence over your individual tactics. A game or two ago I was set to run-focus while our DC had us dropping back in zone to cover the pass. My ROLB would take a few steps back before charging towards the line to tackle the RB when they ran it.

The individual tactics setting only gives your player a bonus to your stats and reading for that type of play. The Defensive play that is called will still determine what your guy does. Thus, if the DC has a play called that will have the LBs in an underneath zone or if he has them stacking the box less, the LBs will play further off the line or fall back before recognizing that the play is a run and reacting.

Makes a lot of sense. Gotta talk to my DC and see how he's running things, cause he himself was quite confused to why they were dropping back in coverage so much. Guess he's still learning/tweaking the AI settings.
