ive only made minimal plays in the D ai and i went back and checked. in a particular nickel set i have it set for the SS to blitz. thats the only mod i made to a three rcvr set. yet ive found several instances where my FS has to cover a WR and not a CB. and it is not the FS as CB3 i only have CB 1 and 2.

One of your outputs is overriding. Input the EXACT situation into the defensive AI tester and it should tell you which play it's calling so you can track it down.

Can you post the play in question so we can look at it?

if nothing matches then it chooses your base D... you need to make sure that you are creating the right defense for the formation

Don't use formations, just go by number of WRs.

Bad advice - going by formations allows you much more flexibility.

How?
You can have a base defense for 2 WR's...then you can make a base defense for 3 WR's...finally you can make a base defense for 4-5 WR's.

Here is a good example of what can happen with a 3 wr set when the defense only has 2 CB's in the game.

Single back and Shotgun -3 wide formations both have 3 WR's.
One formation has only passes - one has both passes and runs. Do you see why it is beneficial to call different defenses for each formation? You don't have to worry about the run against the shotgun, but if you only worry about the # of WR's, then you do have to stay honest and defend the run because of the runs out of Single Back formation.

Honestly, that's something that needs to be looked into. Having a formation with a HB in the game that can't get the ball is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of, perhaps aside from there being 0 pass plays in the GL offense.
