Awesome! Double T has two tough tests left in the Voodoo and Gamblers. If we can hold those two off we're looking at a 2 seed. Lose both and could be bumped to a 6.

Thanks again for the write up.

wheeeew, still in 14th place, lets see if I can hold that spot, and get one more win, so I don't get dumped to the "BB" league, if it is developed. Though it might be good to go down one league, where I can be a little more competitive.

as long as we can maintain our place in the standings, you can rank us anything you want. not sure how we dropped a point from last week with the 150-0 shut out. guess we shoulda shot for 200

you should have.

Seriously, hoax, your team only had the 6th best performance against the Gangstaz. So far this season, 5 teams have played Gangstaz better than you. Why would you expect that to give you a bounce? In comparison, we just layed the wood to the Stallions like no one else had this season. So we got a nice bounce. It's all relative. But as you rightly pointed out, your seed in the playoffs is what matters.

bounce? no. i wouldnt have thought it would drop us a point from last week either. not that playing the gangtaz, means anything anyway.

edit: i will say on the behalf of my squad though, as of now, weve beaten the two teams ahead of us, weve put up more points than the two teams ahead of us, weve given up less points than the 2 teams ahead of us, and we are one game better in the standings than the two teams ahead of us.

all compelling arguments.

well you didn't drop a point from the win itself (that's not possible). the reason the ranking score went down was because previous results all count for 5% less. Eg. if you had gained 2.8 points or whatever for the win vs Olympia, this week you would have only gotten 2.8 * 0.95 of that.

But you are ahead of both those teams.

3 Las Vegas Heat 10-2-0
4 North By Gawd Texas Tornado Humpers 10-2-0
5 Rochester Vendetta 9-3-0
6 Houston Gamblers 9-3-0

ggezhb's power rankings are a little more about how well a team has been playing lately, than over the course of the whole season.

hoax,

It's really all just math, and only a conversation piece anyway. We beat Double T who is ahead of us and lost to the #5 and #6 teams in these rankings behind us. A power ranking is simply using the stats to calculate the relative strength of a team compared to the teams they compete with. No one really thinks Jeff Sagarin can tell them how good a team will be at the end of a season before it's finished (I would argue he can't tell you after the season, but that's another subject). That's the way to look at these ratings. Anyway, I hope we get another shot to play the Heat after we learned a little more about the AI, and I'm glad we have a few more games to continue learning what works and what doesn't before that chance.

im not mad or anything.. just moving the forum more than anything else. i really dont have a problem with rochester being ahead of us in the rankings.. your track record over there has been stellar, and i think with the exception of new brunswick at this point, id still put you guys up as the favorite in any playoff match, regardless of seed.

I didn't think you were mad. At least, it didn't seem like you were. I just thought you weren't looking at the ratings from the perspective any "power ratings" should be viewed. They are informative and good to talk about, but they are really just a mathematical model that can't be used as a true "ranking". That's what frustrates me about the BCS in real life football, because these so called computer polls are given a great deal of credibility despite the fact that they can't know anything but what's put into them. I love seeing as many ratings as possible, but leave true rankings to the on-field results.

This post probably wasn't necessary, but I wanted to explain what I was trying to say. I still hope we get to play the Heat (especially since we can't rig it to play three games against the Billy Creech boys to get to the championship game). The only team I want to play again more is the Sentinels, since they have won two straight against us. Of course, the West playoffs are a coin toss this season maybe even more than last. It's rediculous to think that the Voodoo are in the #7 seed slot (though nothing is set in stone).
