Hi.

Has anyone had similar experiences with LOLB covering TE than on following plays:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=98955&pbp_id=6238386
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=98955&pbp_id=6239577
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=98955&pbp_id=6240102
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=98955&pbp_id=6241575 - PD, but still lot of space given...

Settings were Close (man to man) + Aggressive (coverage).
Interesting part is that similar behavior happens even with Close + Medium (previous games + my other LB who got moved to LOLB - and has even more spd+vis+agi)

Has been going on for some time now. Also, some times other TE + CB as well does the same against TE...

Problem is that I can't figure out are my characters attributes just lacking on spd/agi/vis (lvl29); they are pretty much 50/50/50... also the opposing TE was only lvl20.(50 too little vision still?)

Could be that this is how it works... give enough space if not confident to make the INT (still it was aggressive setting, which did not visibly differ from previous games' Medium setting). If this is how it should work, well... passes to TEs are the FOTM (frustrates LB-me)

This sounds also bit like the 'too agile CB' problem, but could it be left non-fixed for LBs as well?

Or, do LOLBs by default give courtesy space to TEs? (wtf)

Help me out would you - since it's hard to belive that 50/50/50 is too little attribs... Thanks for all comments and ideas.

I have 56/56/56 and I get the same thing on some pass plays to the TE. So you arent lacking in speed and agility.

50 speed isn't impressive at all for a LB.

Yeah (could be higher, still you got 4-5 other skills to train too), but the problem is that if you can move with same speed than TE, why the heck can't you do it just next to him.

So it's agi+vis problem, not speed.

Any comments?

I have the same problem when covering the TE. My LB never had this problem until this season, so I thought it was an agility/speed problem.

It's not just the TE you're up against. The first one you were pump faked imo. More agility would get you back on the TE faster. It might be hard to have enough vision not to get faked...I don't know how much it takes. The second one is ok since it's a sack. The third is bad, you can give the guy space but you should have made the tackle before the first down marker. So something is definitely wrong on that play. How's your confidence?

Yeah, could be that a good fake (head/body), just throws you off enough (sec or two) even with nuts-high vision. I was wondering how much do those SAs of TE (route run, quick cut) effect, could be those too.

Confidence is 30. (this was the season 2-3 estimate for good number - strangely not much gotten up ever since)

Much thanks for all talks, this is now getting to somewhere and I'm getting ideas.

Velhoo, I asked one of our highly respected Mods the very same question just yesterday - linebackers just seem to miss their assignments in underneath coverage against TEs, his advice was to disrupt the passing game as much as possible and have backers with high vision, agility and speed...however the offense has the edge on defense imo, sometimes the Lb will bust their coverage and the TE will still be able to find open space.

Its infuritating as a DC to watch this, my advice would be to stop the QB passing the ball accurately from the pocket.

He also said if you design your own plays to have a good mix in there so the defense isnt doing the same thing on 3rd and 8 etc.

Thanks for info, much appreciated. Let's see what my teams DC's can figure out.

Passing to open TE seems to be bit too much Flavour of the Month right now.

What if the defense is set to zone? Could that help with the LB staying underneath with help up top instead of the LOLB getting juked (or whatever is happening) by the TE?

Remember that TE's have the SA quick cut which allows them to change direction on a dime.

The end zone coverage of the TE is just absurd. Ill play close aggressive on the goal line and still my LB is giving the TE 10 yards space. Personally, I think our team needs a better goal line plan. Id rather blitz everyone on the goal line then get beat all the time by some bogus pass to the TE while my LB watches the fans.
