Play selection is certainly a factor.

Strength is always the main stat for caking someone, though some Blocking is needed, too. And of course, you need agility and some speed to get to the LBs in the first place.

The pancake SA helps, so does high strength and blocking. That is once you get a hold of someone though, which you will need speed and agility (plus vision to a lesser extent) to do that successfully.

I really don't think it's that important to get pancakes as a FB. Sure it looks nice, and we barely get any stats as it is, but holding the block is more important than flattening the defender IMO. I've seen defenders get pancaked, then get up and make the tackle after the FB has already moved on.

Points in the Pancake SA = a waste IMO

Not true. If you have a decent RB, a pancake followed by a second block can bust open a big play. There are times when the pancaked defender will recover and make a play, but I think it happens very rarely, meanwhile blocking two defenders happens a bit more often. At least from my experiences... I'd agree if you just bumped pancake all the way up and neglected other key SAs and attributes though.
