Just wondering if anyone has noticed a difference by playing with the 'Play Type Focus' advanced tactic settings? My lvl22 ROLB is going up against a team that seems to be run heavy and i'm thinking about using the 'run' focus for this game. Any thoughts about the bonus/penalties incurred for doing so?

My DC always wants us on balanced but as we're 2-7, I'd like to try something different to see if it has any effect.

Wow, nobody has a clue? Or is this such a simple question i should know that answer to that I'm just a jacka**?

If you're team is 2-7, what could it hurt to try something different at this point? Try it against a team that you know wants to run and watch each replay and see if you react quicker to runs or are getting burned on passing plays. Let us know how it turns out.

BTW I haven't changed my settings much so I can't give any advice on that, sorry.

I have changed it from time to time. It's hard to quantify how much it has helped or hurt though. My guy is an LOLB and thus covers the TE on passing downs, so I usually leave it on balanced or focus on the pass if I know the other team likes to throw way more then they like to run it. If I played MLB, I would have it on balanced or set to cover the run when facing a run heavy offense. If your not going to make the play offs anyway, you should experiment and see if you like the results. I think how much it helps or hurts your play is heavily dependent on your players build as some builds are better able to overcome a mis-read play then others.

I put the focus on the run last game and it seemed most of the tackles I made ended up only allowing a gain of 1 or 2 yards. In the past on balanced, most tackles were for a 3-4 yard. Only one game so it's tough to tell if this was just random, or the fact were were playing a weak, mostly computer-controlled team.

Current relevant stats for my lvl23 ROLB:

STR-34
SPD- 49
AGL- 48
JUMP- 27
STAM- 38
VIS- 44
CON-32
TCKL- 32

2's across in hard hitter (except defense general)

3's across in pass rusher (except big sack)

Do you think this build is good enough to allow for some risk-taking with still having a chance to recover on a misread play?

Yes, I think he would recover from a misread play as long as your playing level 23 guys and lower. If your compition is higher then you then just play it safe.

Another game with the same settings. Same results. All tackles for short gains and another forced fumble. Might be something to this when playing against run-heavy teams. Thanks.

Against a lvl 27 power back i got blown up. Bunch of missed tackles and no ff. Back to the drawing board.

need to improve that tackling. Whats the most fundamental skill for a football player?

Yup. tackling.

Agreed. A level 27 RB will kill you every time if your tackling is only 32.

Agreed. Boost points next season will be going into tackling for sure. What do you think is an acceptable level? Would you take it right to the soft cap or bring up strength and tackling at the same time?

I'd bring them both up but that's just me, I like a more balanced player. Others will tell you to soft cap tackling first then worry about strength. In the end you know you need to work on both so how you accomplish that is up to you.
