My fullback has about 38 speed, which some have said is too low because it doesn't allow him to get out in front of speedy halfbacks. Anybody know if there is any truth to this (without me having to pour through game tapes)?

Yes, it's true to an extent. I have close to 50 speed and really noticed an improvement once I broke the 40 speed barrier. Strength and blocking are only so important to a FB... you're usually blocking LBs and DBs, they're usually not extremely strong or have much ability to shed your blocks. When you do happen to go against DL, it's typically a double team.

There are some other factors involved, like your FB's vision and agility and the speed/vision/agility of your HBs. You have to find the right balance, by watching game film and talking to your HBs.

For a level 26 though, I'd say your speed is too low. It should at least be at the soft cap by now, IMHO. Also, your carrying is way too high (you only have 20 carries this season). It looks like you're trying to be a blocking FB that can run a little bit... the problem is that you're kind of all over the place. You have a level or two worth of skill points, wasted in carrying. Putting equipment bonuses on blocking is kind of inefficient, because blocking only makes you better at blocking, meanwhile strength makes you a better blocker and a better runner. Putting equipment on stats that aren't capped is also inefficient (such as the equipment you have on speed).

Just look at the replays, and see if you need speed or not. One of my FBs is blocking for a power back with 45/40 speed/agility, and for him it's enough with 40/43. The other one is blocking for an elusive back with 65/65, and so needs to be faster.

And yeah, I know you didn't want to look through it, but it's really the only way to be sure. Besides, it doesn't have to take very long. Just look at replays for rushes (Not pitches) for your own team. It's not that many in each game.

I gotta second looking at replays for an indicator. I say that because there were a few times when looking at replays that I noticed my FB had just enough speed to throw the right block. He almost seemed to speed to hit the most open defender that he could.

That said, I've been working on my speed a little for the moment. It's been a tossup between needing it for blocking for two quick HBs and figuring that it couldn't hurt to be a little faster for rushing, too.

Wouldn't agility be more important for lead blocking? Agility determines how fast you get to your (top)speed. If it is only engaging the first defender then surely about 20-30 speed is enough?
