I have a question about route running. From what I've read, the lower your speed/agility the more the route running SA helps you.

Say I were to get 10 in route running with 35 speed/agility. How beneficial would it be? The intent of the WR is not to be a deep threat, but a possession YAC guy. Trying to figure out if I should invest more into route running, or more into speed/agi.

If you want YAC you have two routes you can take, and neither of them involve route running.

Obviously you have to catch the ball first, and route running will help with that a lot, and with your idea you'd probably have one of the most effective lower level WRs possible at short-mid range separation.

But if you want YAC, like I said, you can either:
1. Pump strength, catching, agility, carrying, speed. In that order or something similar.
2. Agility:speed (3:2) and utilize SAs like spin, head fake, juke, quick cut.

Other than just getting lucky or making 60 yard touchdowns with a speed>agi build those are the only ways I can think of to make a YAC build.

He already has 63 strength @ level 15.

Trying to figure out how to get him more separation so he can break the tackles, instead of catching the ball with the CB/SS blanketed on him.

Strength: 63 Blocking: 10.88
Speed: 32.64 Tackling: 8
Agility: 32.64 Throwing: 8
Jumping: 19.31 Catching: 25.92
Stamina: 18.77 Carrying: 18.34
Vision: 22.64 Kicking: 9
Confidence: 22.09 Punting: 9

Possession:
4-1-1-1-1

Route running as well as quick cut will likely help you accomplish that.
Though of course once you've maxed route running, you will have to raise your speed/agi at later levels to continue playing on an even level with DBs.

This raises the question of whether it's better to reach the soft caps first versus later considering every level you gain will benefit you more in those stats the earlier you do it.

Another route to catching more passes is by raising your catching and jumping to a much higher level. Given Bort's changes to risk assessment, if you have much higher catching than your opponent, you may get throws regardless of separation. (I may be wrong with how the risk is calculated but I assume catching has a lot to do with it)

I've found with a high enough spd/agi you get the balls tossed your way.

Wow thanks.

That really helped me out there with my build.

I've found that with a high enough catching, you catch the ball more often.

Really? because honestly i've seen zero conclusive correlation with high catching and low drops. if you have some id really like to see it.

It's a good thing rhetoric is readable.

Bort has mentioned before that higher catching makes you 'bobble' the ball less. Maybe if your guy is sitting around bobbling the ball he's not concerned about shaking the defender who is fully focused on tackling him. Just a different direction you might consider going.

catching seems to both a) make you try for more balls and b) quickly catch well thrown balls.

so it's a lose/win situation. you'll drop passes that you never would have touched before (incompletes), but the ones that are on target, you'll bobble less and make a completion (instead of a late PD by a CB/FS)

So you guys think Route Run doesn't affect fast receivers? That's dumb. Shouldn't it just give a bonus to Speed/Agility?

Read the SA.

Read the SA.

It says it's "important for receivers that aren't that fast or agile." Why is everyone acting like it doesn't help fast and agile receivers? I bet it helps them even more.
