THE PEERLESS PURPLE PENGUIN PROGNOSTICATIONS (PPPP): WEEK FIVE!!!

So what have we learned so far?

Louisville’s offense are some bad ass mother (shutchermouth!) But I’m just talkin’ ‘bout Louisville?!
It’s REALLY REALLY hard to be competitive with a gutted team.
Brett Favre’s pub far exceeds the actual man.

The perfect record fell this week in two titanic tussles between teams targeting a toehold on the top tier. (See? It’s not ALWAYS “P”!) The consolation---these were two terrific games to study and watch.

Season Results: 29-2
Week Four Results: 5-2
Jax Beach at Baltimore Prediction: None Actual: JAX 56-3
Atlanta at Richmond Prediction: ATL 56-0 Actual: ATL 79-3
Lincoln at Texas Prediction: LIN 48-0 Actual: LIN 103-0
Appalachian at Saginaw Prediction: APP 35-7 Actual: APP 27-13
River City at Cleveland Prediction: RVR 30-27 Actual: RVR 44-7
Sin City at Roswell Prediction: SIN 42-14 Actual: SIN 63-27
Houston at Syracuse Prediction: SYR 24-20 Actual: HOU 45-28
Red Bank at Louisville Prediction: RBK 40-38 Actual: LOU 47-13

This week features some more contests that will shape our views of where the teams shake out in their chase for a playoff berth. It will be interesting, to say the least.

(8) Baltimore Hustle(0-4) at Appalachian Lycans (4--0)-----No comment. (Is one really necessary?)

(7) The State of Texas Domination (0-4) at Syracuse Samurai (2-2)-----Syracuse entered the conference with a bang, winning the first two games out of the gate, but the last two games have been against two of the better teams in the league, evening out the Samurai’s record. Good Karma returns to the Samurai Battle Ground riding on the backs of the Texas Domination. Rebuilding a gutted team is a multiyear task and Texas is only 4 games into the process. The only light at the end of the tunnel for the Domination is that they have two other teams in our conference in the same position—at least they’ll be on a relatively even playing field when these teams match up...……..SYRACUSE-49 TEXAS-0

(6) Roswell Invaders (1-3) at Atlanta Purple Penguins (4-0)-----The Invaders got dealt a bum deal with the early part of their schedule. Red Bank, Louisville, Sin City and now Atlanta---a murderous 4 game stretch. Roswell will try to salvage at least one win out of this quartet of bruising confrontations, but it’s going to be tough sledding against the Purple Penguins. Atlanta’s Bobby Khim has more yds rushing than the entire Roswell team thus far this season, and the Penguins’ BACKUP QB has more yards passing than the Invaders entire passing offense. Strap it up, Invaders. The good news is that by running this gauntlet now, you will be poised for a late season run up to playoff time, and a chance to build some momentum….…..ATLANTA-34 ROSWELL-14

(5) Cleveland Buckeyes (0-4) at Jax Beach Juggernauts (1-3)-----Jax Beach has been able to maintain good talent at the skill positions and CB, but its linemen on both sides of the ball have been depleted by free agency. This is not a good thing (unless you are playing a very sensitive team). I still think Cleveland is a team that’s better than its record indicates, and I think this is the week they show us that. If the Buckeyes can avoid throwing the ball in the direction of star CB Jack DaRippa, they may have their first win of the year..………CLEVELAND-28 JAX BEACH-13

(4) Richmond Empire (0-4) at The River City Ransom (2-2)-----I think I’ve overlooked the Ransom a bit for the first part of the season. They played the Samurai tough, and beat Cleveland handily last week. A very strong offensive line may be the key to River City’s resurgence, as 4 of the 5 players are L23 or higher. I’m still not convinced they’re a threat for the title, but they may well be good enough to get into the thick of the playoff race. Key for them will be the ability to win those games that they are supposed to win---like this week’s matchup against Richmond. I think the Ransom will follow L22 HB Justin Vincent behind that line against Richmond’s overmatched DL to a resounding win...…..RIVER CITY-38 RICHMOND-7

(3) Saginaw Spirit (2-2) at Houston Armageddon (2-2)-----Yet another terrific matchup on tap this week. Saginaw and Houston are both playoff contenders. Both have outstanding linemen both on offense and defense, although Saginaw does have a bit of a dropoff at RDE with Matt Parham. Both with outstanding corners, L24s Curtis Chykie Brown and Champ BombBaily for Houston and L25 Lance Lockdown and L24 Tony Anderson for Saginaw. The difference has to be (a) the running game where Houston features L25 Wickey Woods while Saginaw must hand the ball to a pair of L18 HBs #32 Jim Brown and Bobbie Roberts, and (b) Depth. Houston has WRs of L26, L24, L24, L24 & L19 vs. Saginaw’s corps of L21, L20 L20, L18, & L10. In a game between teams that look as close as these two, that’s enough to give the Armageddon the Prognosticator’s Seal of Approval.. .….…..HOUSTON-20 SAGINAW-14

(2) Lincoln Freedom Warriors (3-1) at Red Bank Thundercats (3-1)-----Another terrific game this week after Lincoln gets back on the winning side in dominating fashion and Red Bank is humbled by the Louisville onslaught. This is another of those early pseudo-playoff games as the results of this game may have major repercussions in playoff seeding in the postseason. Although Red Bank has been more dominant against common foes Texas and Houston, Lincoln seems to have a slight advantage in talent, and if the Freedom Warriors can control the Thundercats running game, they should be able to limit the damage that Red Bank can do through the air with their elite CBs. My intellect says pick Red Bank, but my intuition is tugging me towards Lincoln. Ahhhh, what the heck...……..LINCOLN-21 RED BANK-17

(1) GAME OF THE WEEK: Sin City Showboats (4-0) at Louisville Baby Kittens (4-0)-----For the second week in a row we have a clash of the unbeatens and once again it features the point a minute offense of the Louisville Baby Kittens. Forget about everything else---this game and any other game against the Kitty Cats will come down to one question: Can anyone slow down the Louisville attack? Red Bank found out last week that it couldn’t—although the Kittens did get some help from a few Thundercat turnovers. This week Sin City will try to slow down Kamikaze Kortnue (they work so well together it’s like they’re one person) with a secondary consisting of CBs that are L23, L20, L18 and L18. Yeah, I don’t think they’ve got a chance in Hell either. Sorry Sin City, the gravy train stops here..……..LOUISVILLE-45 SIN CITY-24

Thus endeth this edition of the PPPP. I fully expect that next week we’re going to have an idea of who the top tier teams are, the dark horses, the also rans, and the never walked. Good luck to everyone (except Roswell) this week!

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the week the Armageddon don't get a write-up due to the prevention of hard feelings. Maybe I'll bring a certain someone some Midol...

i thought you played us very well, no T/O's by either team, it was a very good game after that 1st quarter.

I swear that we here in Lincoln have the toughest schedule this year...It's absolutely brutal...But we're working on making moves to bring in a high-level receiver or 2, and a higher level backup DE...

Like you need 'em. You guys are already one of three or four teams out there that we (the Kittens) absolutely cannot look past... If you don't beat us to the A league then you won't be far behind us I'm sure...

Yeah you guys are really tough. So hard to gameplan when you have no weaknesses!

How many weeks have you been saying that? Just saying it isn't going to make them come here, or help you win games.

As we like to say here in KC Griefs territory, woulda, shoulda, coulda...

Nah, I'm just messin. I hope you land them. Makes the game that much more fun!

How quickly you jump off of the Red Bank bandwagon. I hope we can give you another prediction loss so maybe you will think about favoring us next write up.

Ah, the life of an oracle----it's impossible to make EVERYBODY happy!!

With regard to Husker Nation's comment about recruiting.....I think this is a GREAT league with terrific owners who get along well and play competitively and I think it shows in our league Forums. Does anyone think our Forums would be a recruiting tool for teams in BBB#7? I mean, it wouldn't give any of our teams an advantage over any other, but does it show that if a player comes to OUR league that we're not a bunch of whiny crybabies bitching at each other all the time? I've seen some of the other BBB Forums when doing background work for this "Best of BBB" thing (oh yeah, and thanks pantsloads, guys, for goading me into it ) but some of the other Forums are just juvenile!

Or am I being astoundingly naive and optimistic?
