I was told that my being a top ten tackler and pass deflector was a bad thing . What am I doing wrong?

That said, a CB with a lot of tackles isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you get most of them on run plays then that's OK. Having lots of tackles is bad if it means you let your WR catch a lot of passes (and then you tackled him).
Lots of deflections is pretty good, but hopefully you can turn some of those into interceptions.
