Reno (AP)… The San Jose Chupacabra won a jackpot in Reno yesterday on the very first play of the game with a 99 yard kickoff return that set the tone for a 14-7 San Jose victory.
DeSeans Jaxxson took the opening kick all the way back the other way as the Chupacabra got up early and never let go.
“Sometimes, those holes just open up and it makes you smile. Once I get through that first wave, you better believe I’m taking it to the house,” said Jaxxson.
San Jose added another seven points on a Beau Jaxson dive over the goal line in the late first quarter, but were unable to put anymore points on the board, despite being extremely aggressive on fourth downs.
“Listen, if we had picked up those fourth downs, people would be calling us gutsy and brilliant. The fact is we should play every play like it’s a fourth down. We need that urgency to succeed,” said Chupacabra coach Kaynein Fiend.
“The Marauders just played some nice defence tonight.”
Apart from the fourth quarter, it was a primarily defensive affair, with neither team being able to eclipse 300 yards of offense. Wide receiver Harry Cooter was the main target for the ‘Cabra, reining in 12 passes for 130 yards.
The Chupacabra will look to make it four wins in a row at home against the Pensacola Wolfpac – formerly the Minden Musketeers.
“Man, they still the Musketeers. Ain’t no name change gonna change who they are or that sucka QB Chris Lightening. He scared of us baby. If he’s the Lightening, then we gonna bring the thunder on his weak ass,” declared linebacker Demetrius McQueen.
