Changed things up write-up wise this week, since its playoff time, and I was more interested in looking at the match-ups. Really nothing shocking this week rankings wise, as things went pretty much as expected in week 16.

The major components of the rankings are as follows:

Strength of Schedule (SOS): The winning percentage of your opponents to date.

Quality of Wins (QW): Bonus points are awarded for every win based on the opponents winning percentage. So if you beat a winless team, you get nothing, if you beat a previously undefeated team, big bonus.

Offensive Points Over Average (OPOA): If you opponent averages 14 points against and you score 17, you get +3 in the ranking.

Defensive Points Under Average (DPUA): If your opponent averages 21 points scored and you allow 14 you get +7 in the ranking.

This is the last Rankings post for the season, thanks to all for their feedback, and comments. If the Nation is still in BBB#7 next season, the rankings will return around week 6. If not you can always check out my brand of writing at:

Lots of NFL and NCAA football stuff there, warning, if you are a Chiefs, Broncos or Chargers fan, you may not like what I have to say. But if you hate Stuart Scott, you may find something you like.

West Playoff Match-ups

#1 Oakland Nation (Ranked #1) vs. #8 Texas Two Step (Ranked #18)

According to the Rankings this is the biggest miss-match of the opening round. Oakland holds a 19 point advantage in OPOA and a 16 Point advantage in DPUA. In their last meeting, Oakland dispatched Texas 44-3. The thing is, there are no sure things in the playoffs, and Oakland cannot afford to rest on their laurels. If they do an upset could be in the making.

#2 Austin Alcoholics (Ranked #3) vs. #7 Texas Tarheels (Ranked #14)

Austin's 3rd ranked OPOA has placed them near the top of the Rankings all season. The Tarheels needed a week 16 win to get into the playoffs. On paper this looks like another miss-match, but the Tarheels played the Alcoholics close way back in week 2, losing by a field goal. The Tarheels need to bring their “A” game if they hope to pull off the upset.

#3 Anchorage Vikings (Ranked #7) vs. # 6 LA Chupacabras (Ranked #12)

Now here is a game I am looking forward to. LA was red hot until they stumbled the last 2 weeks of the season. The Vikings are coming into the playoffs looking strong, with a week 14 upset of the Alcoholics highlighting their run to the playoffs. Both of these team are looking for respect, and I expect the final to be much closer than the Vikings week 5 30-13 win.

#4 Austin Breakers (Ranked #6) vs. #5 DLF Gods (Ranked #9)

Way back in week 5, Austin took down the Gods 30-16, according to the rankings Austin holds a huge advantage in both OPOA and DPUA, but DLF has bucked the trends all season. This is anybodies game, and should be one of the best week 1 match-ups.

West Playoff Match-ups

#1 Atlanta Purple Penguins (Ranked #2) vs. #8 The State of Texas Domination (Ranked #15)

The Purple Penguins have run the table out East, including a week 2 spanking of Texas 39-14. The Penguins don't have the best offense or defense in the East, but they do have the best record, which speaks to excellent game planning. Texas will need to pull a rabbit out of their hat to pull off this upset.

#2 Niagara Rapids (Ranked #4) vs. #7 Houston Armageddon (Ranked #13)

The East's top defense and #2 offense hosts the Armageddon in what looks to be the biggest 1st round miss-match out east. But looking back at the regular season, Houston gave Niagara all they could handle in a 18-10 slobberknocker.

#3 Louisville Baby Kittens (Ranked #5) vs. #6 Lincoln Freedom Warriors (Ranked #8)

Louisville may have the higher seed, and home field advantage. But The Freedom Warriors dominated 41-16 in their regular season match-up. Looking at the Rankings, that regular season result is quite the upset, as the Kittens have the East's top ranked OPOA and hold a small advantage in DPUA.

#4 Appalachian Lycans (Ranked #11) vs. #5 Red Bank Thundercats (Ranked #10)

The rankings separate these two by .25 points, with the Thundercats holding the advantage due to their win bonus number. Appalachian dispatched Red Bank 20-9 in the regular season, but that was before Red Bank turned it up in the 2nd half of the season. This one could truly go either way.

Every single one of the East playoff teams is tough. (No offense to the West---I just haven't really looked at them).

I hadn't looked really closely at Texas since earlier this season but they are LOADED with talent! I almost peed my purple pants!!! This is a #8 seed???

(And before you give me s#!t about purple pants, there's a certain gamma irradiated green guy you should consider...)

Choked in the season finale then got blown out in the playoffs. I hope that wasnt the fluke you were trying to disprove...LOL dont feel bad, we got beat by the late long ball too today I thought for sure we had them even with 3 TOs and 6 dropped passes. But this just wasnt our season afterall. The Gods will be back with more lightning bolts next season

You were only able to get 6 INTs this time and that simply wasnt enough. The 7th INT makes all the difference.
