If I was to put together a poll of sorts for a "coaches poll" rankings system...how many people here would be willing to vote after each game?

This would be a ranking system similar to the NCAA coaches poll...not a stats-based thing, but instead based on who people think is the best team. It would likely be a simple page listing teams, and have you list the top 10 or 15 teams.

I'll look into getting something up and running in the next day or two if we want, or maybe use a free web-hosting site to throw a web site up if I need to.

you guys are desperate to get a higher ranking for the nudist

But, yeah I would vote.

I tell you what, i've seen some people in other leagues go to a free poll website and set this up. Perhaps, you can locate one of these and pm the link to owner/gms and let them vote. That would be the easiest way to get the most participation.

That's what I was thinking, actually--a free poll site.

It would be in addition to the power rankings. I'm not interested in trying to replace the power rankings--I like them...but it'd just be cool to see what would happen if we had a human vote.

We tried this last season and I was the only one voting after one game (other than Sully of course who was running it).

Another thing I thought could be interesting...

The GM's of the winning teams this year could come back next season do a top 5 for us or something with some analysis, if I get lucky enough to go to the championship game I will be happy to do it...

This will give us somebody who is familiar with the league and has no bias since all of us were his rivals last season.

Another idea I have...

5 elected "officials" who have proved to be active on the boards are selected from each conference to post there top 5 every week through PMs...We can average it all up and post a top 5 from each conference.

Only rule is you cant rank your own team...that may work. Just some ideas im throwing out there

Not to be negative, but why?
There is no coaches or AP poll in the pros, Sully does a damn fine job with his rankings - and he's even chimed in on looking at adding a modifier for streaks. No offense, but keep proving it in the games and don't worry about a ranking. The ranking doesn't get you to the big show. The rankings are effectively just an "I'm prettier than you" game that children play. I have massive respect for everyone that has posted in this thread (and their teams). I just don't see the need for it. Just look at the win/loss records.

But ultimately, opinions are like assholes - everybody's got one....

You make good points but the pros also have lots of opinionated power rankings done by the media that we all enjoy reading, just for fun. I am sure everybody has there favorites and some of us even take the medias opinions of our particular NFL team to heart....

I agree, but we aren't the media - we are directly involved in the teams. We aren't the fans, we ARE the teams. If someone from another conference came in and did this, or one of the mods, I think it would be a different issue (I still wouldn't see the need for it, but...). As it stands, it is too much akin to the "high school student president" vote - all opinion, no substance.

Personally, I detest the talking heads trying to say "who is best". It's one thing to pass it off as "our opinion" and make it clearly KNOWN it's an opinion, and another to say they are the "be all and end all of NFL knowledge" (ie - ESPN, PFW, etc. ad nauseum). For example, do you really trust Deon Sanders opinion on who the best team in the NFL is? Or Steve Mariucci - a guy who can't stay coaching on a team?? It's the old adage about education with a twist. Instead of "if you can't do, teach", it is "if you can't do, preach".

Heh - and I think I just got smellier AND bigger. This is just MY opinion...

I like this idea and would be on board with whatever would be needed. Nice idea Rob.

True I take all those opinions with a grain of salt, same as Sullys predictions but for some odd reason, I still look at all of those predictions and all of those power rankings, rather I agree or disagree they still draw my interest either way. A different way wouldnt be a bad thing
