So lately it seems like everytime my WR is thrown to the CB gets a PD. Is there anything I can do to combat this? Is it a strength issue? Jumping? Agility?

I'm thinking about pumping up my WR's First Step some more and see if that helps me get around these CB's. Thoughts?

Well , this is the big question that every owner of a WR seems to be asking .

I would say catching would help you when getting covered close , combined with high vision that is .

Makes your timing better I think , and if it's a jumpball jumping would help of course , as well as strength to keep the CB away .

Jumping should help. You also need to realize, that QB play gets figured into this, too.
First step will help to get separation.. Carrying should be a little higher. I think this helps hold onto the ball so the CB can't knock it down.

As far as I know carrying will only help you once you have gained control of the ball , therefore it would be a fumble .

Or at least that's my take on it .

Things that seem like they should play into it, but I don't know for sure:
Catching
Jumping
Strength
Vision

Of course, those are just at the point of impact.

As has been said, separation is key to avoiding PD. I'd focus on:
Speed
Agility
Vision
Certain special abilities

Seems fine what you've listed .

To get open:
Speed , Agility , Vision along with First step , Quick Cut and Route Running .

To make the catch:
Catching , vision (again I think) , jumping , strength and then the Possession SAs .

Find out where the problem is and focus on that .

Catching will help you catch deflected balls big time.

Vision to know when the ball is coming, agility, and jumping have cut down most of the deflections away from my guy.

I think catching is actually underrated .

Some use it only to avoid drops , I think that's wrong .

You must be reading my mind today. I just posted that in another thread.

Catching seems to also effect the range of your receivers ability....or the zone in which he can get to a ball. A guy with low catching can't reach out and grab a ball on his fingertips which a guy with high catching can.

Also from what I have seen it helps you get up the field faster and secure the ball more quickly after you get your hands on it. Have you ever seen a really fast guy catch the ball and stop on here? I think thats because of low catching.

Again this isn't confirmed from anyone, just my person experience. Take it as that, I could be 1000000000% wrong.

I agree with what you said 100%, Alex44. That's my perception from my experience as well. And, like you, I could be just as wrong.

Thanks.

Just curious what kind of build your level 21 receiver has. His stats are nice against what looks like good competition. If you don't want to share any details you could PM me or something.

I ask because you're a couple levels ahead of me and I was wondering what I should do next myself.

Yeah , think we will end up with very similar WR builds , I like that

Or at least I'm glad that someone agrees with me , then I'm not alone if this is all wrong

I've also seen some evidence that catching affects whether the QB sees your player as "open". In other words, a player with high catching may need less separation from coverage in order to be "open".

Care to share this evidence ?

I would love to see this .
