Is there no way to be a KR for a CPU controlled team?

The team my HB is on has a CPU returner, I am HB2 and built my player to be a KR.

you have to be the fastest dot on the team. it doesn't care what position. pass rush DE returners are fairly common, WRs, CBs whichever.

other than that, no. there's no way to control anything on a cpu team (hence the name). If you're completely desperate, you can buy a team, set up the depth charts, offense and defense and then sell the team for a partial refund. all that stuff will stay in place until someone else buys the team.

DC gets reset whenever a new member joins. tried this method many a times and failed. the AIs stay but not the DC, there is a way to influence playing time for non-st but requires a wrecked build

and a side note to the fastest player being KR, eq does not count, i had this confirmed at some point by support, after i noticed my faster player not being KR

That makes a twisted kind of sense. The CPU would have to adjust depth charts for new players. It probably just randomizes instead of plug and play.

Did not know about the EQ thing. There's still secrets to be learned after all.

some other tidbits for CPU teams, starting C plays LS, and never seen a WR1 play st, while it doesnt determine starting/backup, stamina plays a HUGE factor in playing time. also a bias to play lower level over higher level. i have never determine whether playing hard affects energy like it does on real teams.
