Thoughts on using the SA closing speed.

Closing Speed only fires when you're further than a certain distance from the ballcarrier. Get too close, and Closing Speed cuts off.

It's also at the end of the SA Tree, which makes it twice as expensive SP-wise as Blitz... which, oh, hey, boosts your Speed and Agility while blitzing. Why not just take the points you were gonna put in Closing Speed and put 'em in Blitz instead? Feels like you'd get more bang for your metaphorical buck that way.

But it's been a LONG time since I built a defensive dot, so that's just my opinion from reading the SA descriptions.

Good SA over all. Doesn't work for blitzing though.

There's an issue with the QB's "throwing stance". The SA won't kick in until the QB "tucks the ball" and becomes a "ball carrier".

There's a Bort quote out there somewhere.

Thanks guys. I’ve never done a blitz dot, thinking how to make one now.

That's a Zone CB. Triple digit speed and agility nat, then tackling for radius, jumping for more radius, then enough vision to get off the LoS at the snap.

At creation you can check the blue box to get Tunnel Vision SA as a bonus.

1st Step is first in the tree. CD is helpful.

JtS VA it's the only thing other than attributes that helps blitzing.

All EQ into Speed, shoot for 160+ total.

I always like to build agility then speed. Agility 104 and speed 100 is my goal. Definitely need enough agility to be more than 10% higher than ANY offensive tackle.

Other than that, I use blitz equipment to get to 11, Tunnel Vision, Shed Block and 1st step.

Made some pretty good ones over the years..

str78
sp100
ag103
tack 81
vis and stam 53
disguise blitz, SB, RP 10 (points and equip)
blitz 11 (didn't use 1st step in this dot)

VA definitely pass rusher, technique speed and agility

Never built a blitzing CB or LB, but is it possible for a blitzer to get by the LT without getting engaged by his block with just pure speed and beating the OT to the spot before he can even try to block the blitzer?

Yes. Especially with disguise blitz.

yes, but at that point don't waste any VA's in Technique Man

Yes. I've seen in the current pre-season games a CB with no special blitz build get past the OT, but he doesn't move anything like a purpose build dot.

completely true.

in order for Tech man to fire, you have to engage. If you engage, you've already lost.

One other thing to keep in mind... against the best of the best you're only talking about 1 sack every other game. It's an important weapon for the defense, because it forces early throws. Just don't expect statistical dominance. You'll do well against sub par teams so there is that... (but at that point everyone else does too).

yeah, those are either CB's or pass rush DT's

no DE's until #10, and he had 3

And that DE is not at all a blitz build.

Head of Steam also helps to avoid being engaged in a block.
