This is another hot topic that dates back to previous generations of dotballers..

Some prioritize % AEQ over everything, others have been successful in the past with ignoring % AEQ and going with SA's. I've had success with both.

What do you prefer?

A prime example for me is the receiving builds. For instance, I would rather dump resources into getting open and creating separation vs. 22.5% Catch Ball %.

So my WR build would be 22.5% Fake Chance and all the Fake SA's, ignoring Catch Ball, because let's face it, 85 catching seems to be all you need to consistently catch a ball while open. On the contrary, no matter what you do, you can't consistently catch a ball while covered, unless you have a slow chunky possession WR, and even then, the QB doesn't want to throw him the ball because he's covered.

Thoughts?

I used to go for 3 +% pieces. I also used to be dumb.

I get much better results going for 2 +% pieces and 2 SA pieces. Better return on investment.

I know a couple people who never go higher than 1 +% piece, but that doesn't feel right to me.

I know that I've heard some of the previous "legends of the game" swore by SA's alone. I also worry this is outdated at this point and or if it doesn't work you are in bad shape. Otherwise, if you at least use 2-3 % AEQ pieces you are in the same boat as the rest of us for the most part.

Sounds logical, I've never been a fan of a building receivers for after the catch. I think though it's possible to both build a receiver to get open and catch the ball. Use AEQ for one job and VA for the other.

3 or 4 % pieces on almost every player

with the exception of kickers and punters, and OL sometimes

every defensive player, WR, TE, QB, HB (sometimes a PHB will have just 2 BT%, sometimes OL & BFB just 2 HB%)

that was before you could add extra SA's

consider this - there is a reason % pieces had to be nerfed somewhat.....

The thought is to fake to get open, and win the easy catch roll while open.

I have had this build: https://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/player.pl?player_id=4758732

And it seems to work as planned, but it's hard to tell as he has only had 1 season of plateau that he was utilized and even then it was in a pretty weak Pro league at the time.

Edit: Watching his plays, he does fake a hell of a lot, and is open a lot as well, just not targeted a bunch.

First Step instead of Head Fake would be better

unless he was being used for blocking (on Mauler's teams, not out of the question) I would rather the SP from Strength be used for getting CF and Juke to 10 and use that AE for CB%

is season 89 his only WL season?

Correct S89 is his only WL season, and S87/S88 were in Natty Pro. All other seasons were in Casual, capping at Reg Pro Cas.

Honestly, he head fakes more than anything, and while it doesn't create the separation as Juke or Catch Fake, it still does help. If I did it again, I would drop Strength to first cap and get First Step to 10. Again, the strength was there because he was built for a Casual team and I figured it wouldn't hurt to have it.

AEQ = 2x Fake %, 1 Juke, CEQ = 4 Catch Fake

Again, the basis of this argument is that he doesn't need Catch Ball %, and I think that would be more clearly evident if he had more of a chance to prove it.

I could always try to stretch 4 AEQ out of this build and could affford a CB% piece, although I really don't see it necessary.

you could also use SP to get Juke and CF to 8 and split the CEQ to add 2 to each and have them both at 10 while being able to add CB%

with only the 1 WL season it is hard to tell much as all other leagues skew stats with all the bad teams

one of our WL TE's this season (yes, the build is closed, but just showing you his stats)

https://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/player.pl?player_id=4755310&playoffs=0

this one also - similar builds, similar stats lol

https://glb.warriorgeneral.com/game/player.pl?player_id=4755205&playoffs=0

both have CB%, catching 2/3 of the balls that came their way

edit - the 2nd TE has been on our team in WL the past 5 seasons
