I'm assuming this will be a 2 part answer, the reality and the public opinion

Understand I'm not saying it's not important, but I wouldn't say it's the #1 thing to get. I'm sure I'll catch plenty of hell for saying this but, to me, you can have all the 'fake' and 'juke' and all that jazz you want but if your receiver can't be counted on to make the catch then it's not good enough. So I tend to favor all those things that make making the catch the priority. Catch Fake is good for getting open (sometimes) but you have to consider that any good DB worth it's salt has a shit-ton of vision and lots of 'avoid fake' gear which means Catch Fake should be much less effective. Against dumb DB's, it's awesome. So just how important Catch Fake is can be debated until the cows come home.

I'm going to go with the former opinion.

For a receiver, its almost ALL about the "get open" option.

Its easy to pump a receiver to the 90s in catching, and add "Sticky Hands" Special Ability to whatever level you'd like. But if the QB doesn't perceive you as "Open", he won't target you consistently.

"Catch Fake" and "Juke" (with the supporting attributes, equipment, etc) to make them fire is what makes a receiver a consistent threat.

Impossible to say.

If you're the WR2 and do this http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/images/plays/18.gif then Catch Fake is worthless... you just need a ton of QC and Agility

If you're the WR2 and do this http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/images/plays/129.gif then Juke will be the key, and Catch Fake may or may not fire depending on the length of the drag

If you're the WR2 and do this http://glb.warriorgeneral.com/images/plays/197.gif Catch Fake is the only weapon you have (other than Speed)

In general, given the INT rate of the sim, I'd say that Catch Fake could be skipped if your OC has a plan for your dot (no long passing). If you're going to be just another dot in the WR rotation, it's probably mandatory.

Having it will definitely make you more attractive to more teams.

.•° Demonic Possession °•. (I assume) is who you're talking about (thank god for copy/paste). If he's really a possession style, then in theory, it's not vital. If you're doing a Speedster with a fakey name, then don't skip it. Given you're above 80% catch rate, I'd assume it's a possession style.

btw... don't you have a team and network forum for these types of questions?

Good catch TJ. I hadn't even thought to ask (or look) about what KIND of Receiver it was. Definitely it's not something (highly) important to most quality Possession receiver builds. For Speedster builds, again, it's use to to GET open (create space between you and the defender) but I still say making the catch is more important. Just ask the Packers and the Steelers.

I recall something that was said long ago about uncontested catch attempts being much easier for a WR. So, if you can get a lot of space because of a fake, the catch roll will be better. This matters a lot for speed/fake WRs.

However, when we are talking about a possession build, I would make sure to get 30+ strength, 60+ carrying, and maybe even a %avoid fumble EQ to make sure that your dot holds onto the ball. DBs knock a lot of balls loose on WRs with low strength and carrying.

Here is a pretty good possession WR.
