Has anyone tried this SA on their goto WR? I figured it would improve his YAC average simply because he would receive an extra yard or two when the SA fired. Also seems it would be very important on 3rd downs when trying to get that first down.

I've never seen it done but I suspect mostly because there are better things to spend points on than that. 
I don't see why it wouldn't do what you're asking of it but I'm also not sure you'd end up thinking you got a bargain out of taking it over other things out there.

Yeah, most agents are looking for a way to increase a build's catches from 20 per season to 30 (or more) rather than attempting to get an extra yard out of each of the 20 catches.

Not to mention, if I was an OC...
If the team needed 7 yards for a 1st down, I wouldn't call a pass play for 6 yards and hope an SA fires. I'd just call an 8 yard play.
In the run game it's different. You don't really know how many yards you're going to get. With a pass, you control the routes and the progressions
