I've heard, many a season ago, that the red "penalized SA's" are the equivalent of -1 to that SA. Is that true? And if so, if I put 1 into a penalized SA that should make the equivalent of 0 to that SA. Correct?

I guess my point is, if I have 1 in a penalized SA. Will it still fire?

the word from a former admin is red is a 40% hit to the value and green is a 40% bonus to the value

That is indeed what was said.

It always struck me as a rather large adjustment (on the plus side more than on the penalty side), particularly in comparison to other features of the game.

I THINK it will fire without any points in it if it's a part of your Dot's SA tree... it just won't fire hardly at all. So a penalized SA will fire even less... probably not at all if it's less than 0 (which it would be with a -40% hit to it). So, by that logic, if you put just one point into it, it would fire... just hardly ever. On a handful of O-linemen I've built I've put SP's into penalized SA's a few times. Unless you put more than 1 SP into it (like try to get it to at LEAST a level 5), then it's kinda a waste since it won't fire often enough. I don't do that anymore simply because I get more 'bang for my buck' by putting it only into SA's that aren't penalized... and let my build do the work. Prime example is using a Run Block Center arch in passing situations. Sure he's penalized in SA's against a pass rush Defensive man, but if he's built with enough vision and agility, he picks up his blocks just fine and works.

Not all SA's fire, some are always active. I always guessed it at 20 percent. Catch said 40.who knows.

In general avoid unless you think it's important.

Also generally noting on like break tackle SA's they fire more often than it shows on the pbp. The pbp only shows when it fires and breaks a tackle, but if it fires and the defender still has a high enough make tackle score to tackle you, you get tackled with no pbp alert. Most SA's when they fire just give you a bonus to some roll you already do against an opponent. SA's do not make you instawin .

Oh lord... like I can't even remember how many seasons back the question was asked. I DO remember it was a PeeWee question about SA's, if they worked, and how often. I probably can find what I wrote down back then but I'm pretty sure I didn't list WHO said it. If I had to guess it would be an old Q&A answer by either Bort, Catch, or 'Name Your Mod Here'. I do remember it was said the SA's DO fire even in the PeeWee leagues but that it would be a somewhat rare occurrence. You know GLB... they HATE to give you concrete answers like 'how often' and OOP penalties and stuff. So I could not ever tell you that they absolutely fire for every dot... or that every single one fires... or how often. But I've built PeeWee dots with that knowledge for a whole lotta seasons, even figuring out how to turn the free EQ into AEQ for one piece to get an advantage.

Yes I am sure

Right off top of my head I know I've seen diving catch fire with 0 in it

Receivers make diving and jumping catch attempts relatively often without said SA's. But that doesn't mean it's the SA is firing. Just like defenders make diving tackle attempts without the SA.

If you've seen a juke or a spin (or any other SA with the replay text pop-up) fire on a dot without the SA, that would be something else.

I would guess it closer to 20% myself like Wise said. But who the heck knows
