First, not under any illusion that this will happen. But always thought it would be cool.
Injuries don't really work because who wants to pay to build a dot and have the sim randomly blow out their ACL for the remainder of the year. But what about something that an agent chooses that could put their dot on the sidelines?
Suggestion to add steroids to the game. They exist in football, why not here? While you can argue/debate the appropriate BTs/percentages/penalties etc. here are the basics of the vision for how it would work.
For some # of BTs your dot could buy steroids. Lets say 24 BTs gets you 4 games in your system. Steroids are "effective" only for regular season games - so can't stack for playoffs as a team.
If you buy steroids your get say 5% increase to all attributes for the 4 games (24 BT). No one would know whether your dot was on roids or not. Each night Bort runs a script that randomly tests a percentage of the dots for steroids (1%/3%/5% whatever). If your dot "tests positive" on the script that night, your dot receive four game suspension (including playoffs) as a first time offender and the dot gets a scarlet letter "S" for steroids next to their name. Just like in the NFL, now everyone knows that dot was on roids. Dots on suspension can't be cut or replaced. You can't just refill their roster spot. You are forced to "play a man short."
Once the suspension is served it is up to the agent if they want that dot to do roids again or not. First time offenders are put in a separate group which is tested at a higher percentage level. If found positive a second time it is upped to an 8 game suspension and a second "S" is added to the dot's profile.
Again two time offenders are grouped and tested at an even higher level nightly. If you test positive a third time the dot is forced into retirement with flex returned as per normal retirement. Agent can only blame their self.
Players might go a whole career juicing and never be caught. When recruiting, teams could consider past history in whether they want to take the risk on a dot that might get suspended/retired. Some teams might like "dirty dots" and grab the 5% and not worry about consequences.
GLB3 is rumored to have team doctors added to the sim.
