World League Super Bowl Spotlight
Miami Red Hawks @ Odessa Mojo
I mean really, are we shocked even in the slightest that Odessa has returned to the WL Championship after having won it for the last 3 seasons in a row? The question really becomes, is Miami the team that knocks Odessa off their pedestal? They weren’t in Game 1 of the regular season when Miami fell to Odessa 65-45. They weren’t in S44 when Miami fell to Odessa twice, 38-21 in Game 2 of the regular season and 31-16 in Conference Championship. In game one of the regular season this season, Miami played a tough game against Odessa but they turned the ball over far too many times throwing 3 interceptions and getting nothing out of their running game in terms of yardage, despite scoring 2 TDs there.
Odessa also through multiple interceptions but they also ran the ball very effectively for 6 touchdowns, and more than 400 yards. FG opportunities also hurt Miami, where they were 1/1 but Odessa was 3/3; even a potential spark on a KR TD wasn’t enough to get things done for Miami.
This game wasn’t a complete failure but the failures are what did Miami in, having said that, if they weren’t capable of winning they wouldn’t be here. With back to back losses to Java & OPT, there’s no denying that Odessa is beatable, but as 14 other teams this season know, doing so is not achievement easily obtained. In this game, for Miami, they’ve got to do a better job of protecting the football and they most definitely have to get more out of their running game while not sacrificing their passing game. Additionally, they’re going to have to find a way to limit Odessa’s rushing attack which is much easier said than done. For Odessa, they don’t need to do anything different imo, they’ve just got to keep pounding the rock and scoring TDs.
Good Luck to both of you!
Prediction: Odessa Mojo 35-28
