So I've been thinking about how to make a good shutdown CB and came up with an interesting idea (not sure if its been mentioned before). My idea is of a "Demoralizer" CB which is basically going to be a hard hitting SS playing at corner. His role is to demoralize the receivers, thus eliminating the passing game so the defense can concentrate on stuffing the run later on in the game.

Build:

Main Attributes: Strength, Tackling
Minor Attributes: Speed, Agility, Vision, Jumping
Main SAs: Monster Hit, Growl
Minor SAs: Wrap Up, Diving Tackle

Not sure whether to put jumping as a main or minor attribute. This is going to be a risky guy to play because he won't have the speed to catch up to a speedy receiver and will have to allow a few catches in order to make the hits so he'll need to be on a team with very speedy safeties.

Now, I'm just looking for opinions from people and see if my theory sounds good before I actually experiment it.

I say no.

The main problem is that this strategy relies on giving up receptions in order to allow the Demoralizer to make the demoralizing tackles. Since WRs gain morale for making catches the net effect on morale is going to be limited at best.

Now if you wanted to make a LB to play CB and stack him with Snarl, Aura of Intimidation, and Monster Hit, that might be better since the aura works without having to make a tackle.

Thanks for your input! I don't have a LB so I didn't know about the Aura of Intimidation.

Can I get some more input on my strategy or support for Mich's opinion?

I think its fine if you plan on telling all your teams you wish to join you're a CB and what you can do.

I think it's a terrible strategy. This isn't real life. They're little dots on a screen. Your player won't demoralize anyone. He'll just get beat often by speed receivers. If you want a player like you're describing, create a LBer.

If you really are willing to give up receptions, the best plan would probably be to up STR, Tackling and just try to force fumbles. Most receivers have pathetic strength and carrying.

There is a morale bar, you know? I know that I'll get beat by speedy receivers, but its not like I'm gonna be a turtle waddling behind, I'll have some speed. I also mentioned that I'll need to be on a team with fast safeties. It's not like I haven't thought this through. Still, I appreciate your input; it could save me some flex points

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea if you're playing a lot of zone. As a matter of fact, that would be a perfect build if you included vision as a main attribute. If you're playing man, it might work if you have the right personnel playing with you.
