Whenever you want to build them or start shopping for them, and being able to upgrade them to be better than the regular EQ.

You just have to be careful and don't spend all your BT, since you may be needing them for training enhancements or unlocking atts for multi train.

Good advice. And I'll add that you shouldn't start rolling (if that's your plan instead of buying outright) until at LEAST level 31. Some prefer to wait until later when you can get more pieces to show for each roll attempt... I generally start around 31-32 so I can know when I'll need to switch to light training (if necessary) to top off the 3 or 4 pieces I'm getting.

Yep, this.
Sometimes I wait until level 51 to roll, but usually at lvl 31 you can start finding a few decent pieces.

One last 'little trick'? Make sure you get at least 3 pieces rolled up BEFORE you spend anything on an upgrade. This way you'll know if you can go for a 4th piece AND you'll also know just exactly how many BT's you'll need to max out every piece... therefor also knowing exactly when to switch over to light training to get that right.
