PEERLESS PURPLE PENGUIN PROGNOSTICATIONS (PPPP): WEEK ELEVEN!!!

Just flew back from vacation (and boy are my arms tired! Who says Penguins can’t fly?) and I want to say “Thanks!” to shepp for filling in while I was otherwise occupied and also for comparing the Peerless One’s Perusals to those of the legendary John “Boom!” Madden. I have no idea what shepp was drinking when he wrote that, but I want some!

The last two attempts at Prognostication have fallen short of our usual standards, which I will blame on the disruption to my routine caused by my vacation (Damn vacations!). This week is chock full (does anyone say that anymore???) of intriguing matchups that beg for a Purple Prediction. Hopefully, this week’s truncated version of the PPPP will Prove Prescient

Season Results: 31-8-1
Week Eight Results: 5-3
Richmond at Jax Beach Prediction: JAX 60-0 Actual: JAX 94-0
Cleveland at Texas Prediction: TEX 48-16 Actual: TEX 34-0
Houston at River City Prediction: HOU 27-24 Actual: HOU 23-6
Roswell (Charlotte) at Saginaw Prediction: SAG 30-13 Actual: SAG 37-3
South Bend at Las Vegas Prediction: SBD 23-17 Actual: SBD 30-27
Red Bank at Lincoln Prediction: LIN 38-6 Actual: RBK 20-10
Louisville at Appalachian Prediction: APP 18-13 Actual: LOU 27-22
Niagara at Atlanta Prediction: NIA 24-10 Actual: ATL 38-37

(8) River City Ransom (1-9) at Red Bank Thundercats (6-4)-----Who woulda thunk it? Richmond is NOT involved in the #8 game for the week! Instead, we have the rebuildling River City Ransom at Red Rank, uh, I mean Red Bank (Thanks, Scooby!). Regardless of whatever speech impediments I may have acquired, count me a believer in the Thundercats. Coming off two straight wins against Lincoln and Las Vegas, Red Bank gave Niagara a mighty battle before finally succumbing 28-16. River City may share the same aquatic theme as Niagara, but they’re definitely not the same kind of team ………..RED BANK-43 RIVER CITY-10

(7) Niagara Rapids (8-2) at Jax Beach Juggernauts (4-5-1) -----Jax Beach has continued to impress as they improve each week. After starting the season with 3 straight losses, Jax Beach has won 3 out of 4. Unfortunately, they run into a buzzsaw in the form of the Rapids. Are the Juggernauts better? Unquestionably. But good enough to beat Niagara???? Naaaaaaah—at least, not yet.……..NIAGARA-46 JAX BEACH-26

(6) South Bend ShamRockers (3-7) at Atlanta Purple Penguins(10-0)-----South Bend is another team showing signs of revitalization having won 3 of 5 after starting 0-5. Their passing game is formidable with Papa Dynamite throwing to Lvl 22 Ethan Schlueter or Lvl 20 Crazy Joe Gallo. South Bend’s big issue will be on defense where the talent is not quite as strong. Not a mismatch by any means, but Atlanta still comes out on top………..ATLANTA-27 SOUTH BEND-14

(5) Richmond Empire (0-10) at Cleveland Buckeyes (1-9 )-----The Brawl for the Basement!!! The Smackdown for the Cellar!!! The Lockup for Last!!! The fact that the teams are separated by only one game in the standings might suggest that these teams are similar in quality, but NO!---Richmond is in a class all by itself. Cleveland gets to enjoy a feeling that has been all too infrequent—VICTORY!!! ……..CLEVELAND-30 RICHMOND-10

(4) Saginaw Spirit (4-6) at State of Texas Domination (5-4-1)-----Saginaw finds its playoff hopes still alive despite their best efforts to set up an early off season, but one more loss will be devastating to the Spirit’s playoff hopes with games against Appalachian, Houston, Lincoln, and Anchorage upcoming. Texas comes off an impressive win against the Appalachian Lycans and has battled its way back into a contender’s spot. I hate to Pick against my fellow Prognosticator, but this one has Texas Bar-B-Q written all over it …….TEXAS-23 SAGINAW-17

(3) Las Vegas Outlaws (4-6) at Roswell Invaders (4-6)-----HUGE playoff implications as the loser of this game will have an incredibly difficult time leapfrogging other teams into the playoffs. Las Vegas has had difficulty of late, squandering a promising 4-2 start by following it with 4 straight losses. I think this is the week that Vegas rebounds ……..LAS VEGAS-20 ROSWELL-13

(2) Appalachian Lycans (6-4) at Houston Armageddon (5-5)-----This game could have HUGE playoff implications down the line, especially for the Armageddon who can ill afford to drop to 5-6 especially considering that their regular season finale will be against the Oakland Nation. Both teams have exceptional talent on their rosters so this should be a highly competitive and entertaining game that’s hard to pick, but on the basis of the cool new avatar, my call is…………APPALACHIAN-28 HOUSTON-27

(1) GAME OF THE WEEK: Lincoln Freedom Warriors (8-2) at Louisville Baby Kittens (10-0) -----Lincoln has regained its winning attitude after stumbling against South Bend. The Freedom Warriors abandoned their preseason plans to wait to boost until playoff time and have reaped the fruits of their strategic decision in the form of victories against Jax Beach and Roswell. However, Louisville makes a habit of embarrassing teams that have “superior“ talent, so assessing the game by looking at the levels of the players on the Kittens is hazardous. My head tells me Louisville is the choice here, but a couple factors favor Lincoln. First, the Richmond effect—a quirk of the schedule has teams playing Lincoln the week after playing Richmond and they often underperform. Whether this is due to fatigue after running up the score against the Empire or not, it seems to be a reproducible effect. Second, against teams with a >0.500 record, Louisville has struggled, winning by 1, 6 and 5 points and the Baby Kittens have yet to face any of the other top 4 teams in the conference. Third, I swore I wouldn’t make the mistake of picking against Lincoln again after they proved me wrong repeatedly earlier this season. Adding all these highly objective scientific factors into the equation, I come up with……..LINCOLN-23 LOUISVILLE-18

OK, late but still before gametime! We’ll see how things play out this week, and hopefully we’ll get back on schedule starting in Week 12. Everyone have a Happy 4th!!!
