I'm going to reference a specific play in this thread, but this is also just a general question.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2537598&pbp_id=6163461

On this play it seems that my QB makes two egregious errors. First he doesn't throw to the wide open TE which would have resulted in a first down. Second, instead of throwing over the defender to an open WR he seems to throw it right to him.

Are the tactics an issue here? I'm currently on -70 bullet -50 open man.

Well... #1, the link you provided is to a private game... (which GLB doesn't seem to want to fix anytime in my lifetime)... so we can't view the play. That said, since your build is closed... but your QB is level 73... I'm guessing he's pretty much a finished product with appropriate skills pertaining to his archetype (better than 150 throwing, near 100 strength, somewhere around 80-90 vision... ect, ect, ect.). Perhaps more towards open man and even more towards bullet might help. Things I don't know... was it a "bad throw" (would say so if it was)? was the pass tipped? Does he have a high enough agility? (bad throwing mechanics also cause poor pass quality) What does he have for AEQ help? And PQ pieces? PD pieces? All that stuff might help us better answer the question. But I'm guessing it was a bad pass... not bad tactics.

Here's a link to some screenshots from the play.

After he throws it the linebacker picks it and returns it for the score. The game did not consider it a "bad pass". My QB may not be the ideal build but I think he's pretty close to it.

There could be a ton of factors in play between your tactics, the defenders build and tactics, pressure on the quarterback, and random luck involved.

Yeah. Things you might check on are the height of the LB who made the pick... and, if you can find it out, the jumping ability of the LB and any other info. Sometimes it's just a great play made by a good build. I've built a few CB's who have done to other QB's what has happened to you. Lots of jumping and proper build allows one to pick off passes a good distance from the intended target. If that's true, then you would really need to set to "lofty" so much it would allow defenders to close in on the receiver while the ball is in the air. Finding the balance will still leave you vulnerable at times. You simply cannot avoid ALL situations.

What are the rest of the tactics

Not sure I would use -50 open man, closer to -100 and I think you will find far better results out of your QB

Agree... I would go with a much higher Open man than 50.
