Just curious if anyone has any insight on the worth or effectiveness of Run Blocking SAs on kick/punt returns. I assume Hands, Pummel and Absorb Pain work as they only effect energy and moral, but what about Run Block, Get Low, Cut Block, Pancake, Balance, and Lead Block?

Blocking on ST plays is considered to be run blocking. So, unless the SA specifically says it doesn't work on Special Teams, any SAs that work for run-blocking will work on STs.

Follow-up... Lead Block only works when the dot is, well, lead-blocking, and that's a much more specific type of blocking that happens only rarely on STs. So, Lead Block will work on those rare occasions when a blocker on STs turns into a lead blocker, but those are rare occasions indeed. Technically it will work, but it's probably the last SA you should worry about for ST dots.

IMO Run Block, Cut Block, and Pancake are decent ones if you want SA's
I would avoid Lead block and balance (most gunners aren't rev-caking you).

Pancakes are important. However the Pancake SA is too expensive and doesn't really get you that many more Pancakes. Best to spend those Skill Points on Strength, Blocking, and other attributes and SAs.

i thought lead block didnt work because the returner didnt have a LOS so its not considered lead blocking.

Lead block doesn't need LOS to fire.....

Just curious if anyone has any insight on the worth or effectiveness of Run Blocking SAs on kick/punt returns.
Hands, yes It's ok. But there are better ones
Pummel, yes it's good.
Absorb Pain, yes If you don't build enough stamina into your STOP, this is decent... otherwise it's a waste.
Run Block, yes very good one.
Get Low, yes not all that good for ST's.
Cut Block, yes very good one.
Pancake, yes good one.
Balance, yes very good one.
and Lead Block? yes I like it and aaasahi is correct... it works for any "lead blocker" on all running plays.
Also consider Quick cut to help you with keeping speed up when having to turn to close on blockers/tacklers... and 5% hold block is one of the best bonuses on your AEQ. Hope that helps.

And I could swear I remember Catch confirming that "lead blocking" can happen on ST plays, but that it happens only very rarely on ST plays.
Whether you're right or I'm right, we both have the same conclusion: Lead Block is a horribad SA to pick for ST dots, and you'll get much better value spending your SPs on other SAs or on Attributes.

Get 10-11 in Pancake, Run Block, and First Step and whatever you can get in Cut Block and Get Low.

This is bad advice. Pancakes happen very often on STs because the return team can put their bigger, stronger blockers on the smaller, weaker coverage dots. It might be debatable whether pancake is worth it on an OL who is only blocking DL, but it is certainly worth it for a STOP who will be blocking safeties, LBs, and CBs along with the occasional DT and DE.

Makes sense.

pancakes on st tend to piss me off. far too often the player that gets caked will get up and be the 1 to make the tackle. i wish blockers had the option as to what to do when they pancake a player;
a) stay and jump up and down on him
b) run off to find someone else to block

i'm going to go with you and blame my faulty memory.
