Hey everyone, so I am essentially brand new here. I am quite interested in the coordinating aspect of this game, and it looks like there is a lot of strategy involved. I was wondering, and sorry if somehow this sounds bad, but would it be an awful idea to buy a pro team as a novice? I understand there is a big learning curve, but I think I saw somewhere (and I may be wrong here) that the pro teams offer the most options for coordinating. So yeah...is it a horrible idea to just go all in and get a pro team?

No, don't start with Pro. For one, with being a new owner you'll only be able to scrape the bottom of the barrel as far as talented dots go, unless you know enough guys to fill out the team. As far as the "more options" go, the only thing you get are dots that are nearing completion or are already finished with their builds. You won't get any extra boxes to check off or anything like that, it's the same layout, just a different plan of attack.

It's best to start off as a coordinator and learn the ropes first and build a reputation before you buy a team, unless you plan on manning the team yourself.

Only you can make up your mind though. Learn through the ranks and start with Rookie, or even Pee Wee to get the feel of the AI layout. That's my best advice in this case.

Ah, alright, thanks for the input. I am pretty impressed thus far with the long, helpful responses on this forum.

So if you start with rookie, you will eventually have to go and buy another team to compete in the pros, if I am not mistaken?

no,eventually your rookie team will make it to Pro Level.Teams move up each season as the dots age and level up. Well, except peewee, peewee teams always stay peewee

my advice would be to start with a casual team and later move on to regular team. Although it is tougher to fill a casual team roster.

Just helps to learn the basic AI's,depth charts and tactic settings rather go all in at once and try building full on OAI and DAI as well as custom D plays and still have to get the feel for depth charts and such. Can be a bit overwhelming in regular leagues at 1st,

Not true if you only stick to one or two teams.

Start with a PeeWee or Casual teams. Learn the mechanics before trying to build a rookie team that can make it to the Pros.

Wow, very definitive answers, I guess Pro is not the way to go (for now)...

I thought there'd be some more middle ground answers, but obviously the learning curve is quite high in this game!

Learning curb is high. When you really learn what you are doing you will see just how difficult it is to put out a great on-field product.

If there were more people active in the game right now, I'd agree -- start with Casual.

With the game in its current state, however... I'd say start with a Rookie team at this point. There are a lot of people who will refuse to play in Casual, and trying to recruit an entire Casual roster as a brand new owner will be like banging your head into a wall. You'll end up with a lot of CPU dots, and your team will play so badly that you really won't be able to learn much from watching your team play.

I'd say at this point you're better off buying a Rookie team... much easier to recruit for than recruiting for a Casual team, so you should be able to get a roster of 55 humans. You'll learn a lot more that way, and you can always start with the preset AIs and build your own AIs and packages out from there.

An even better idea, though... don't buy your own team. Not yet. Instead, look through the Teams Looking For Players forum in the Looking for GMs/DCs/OCs subforum and find a team that is looking for an OC or DC. Or post in the Players Looking For Teams forum in the GMs/DCs/OCs subforum and let people know you're interested in learning the ropes. Someone will pick you up... coordinators are always in demand, regardless of your skills at it. You'll find a home that way for sure.

Recruiting is going to be brutal no matter which league you choose. People want to play for people that know what they are doing in glb1.

casual is such a different beast, why waste time there if he wants to learn about AIs? many players just will not play in casual too so recruiting is much harder. i would start with rookie and find mentors who will help set up the AIs and let you see how higher levels work.
