Never much worked with offensive linemen before, but I'm thinking about it here soon.

What all goes into a pancake?

Starting with skills:

Purely strength? Will greater acceleration/agility help? Blocking talks about 'holding the block' ... does this mean a high blocking score doesn't help with pancakes?

Special Abilities:

Obviously, pancake. But would first step help me catch a slow guy and knock him over? Cut block talks about bringing someone to the ground ... is this the same as pancaking?

Thanks in advance.

Cut block doesn't count as pancake.

Hunt through Bort quotes for facts.

Also I would PM Snakes22, cuz he has a fking Tank OL and should know a bit about pancakes.

Strength vs strength primarily. Blocking helps as does break block. Agility helps as does balance. Speed probably helps on open field cakes... doubt it helps much in the trenches. Getting double blocked (or double attacked) counts. Stamina (or lack thereof) counts. Just a few of the various things out there. But I'd say the biggest one is Strength, SA's and VA's combined. The rest is just "help" to the end result. IMO.

Momentum does help, so speed and first step are worthwhile, just be careful about first step on pass blockers.

In addition to helping with the pancakes, you will actually be able to get into position to make blocks, especially on the outside. Your HB will love you a lot more if you are blocking the tacklers in the area he is trying to run through than if you knocked over two people away from the play.
