I am dipping my toes into the owner arena, Having never owned a team before, I have some questions.
It will be a rookie regular team. What is the best day to buy the team? Is there anything special I have to do or need to know?

Buy on day 40, and buy any level/league/age

Immediately request for team to demote to rookie (will be an option on team home page)
Team will move to rookie by day 42(most likely)

Start lining up players now. Set up a Private Forum to invite the agents that will be creating dots for the rookie team. Make a mock roster list in the private forum , try and fill all roster positions.

Send them offers on day 42(providing they have created their dots)

If you wait until you have the rookie team to begin fling roster positions, chances are slim that you will field an entire team of human dots. Start now.

You should actually get started on recruiting before you buy a team, or buy a team now, there are plenty of cpu's at rookie level, recruit for next season, gm all the players you're recruiting so they now what team, demote the team back to rookie.

Of you can do everything Bane said, since I pretty much repeated it.

Some good advice from Bane.

A couple of things I would add / clarify. You need to buy a team in a regular league, not casual or pee wee.

Instead of a Private Forum, you can just make any interested agents a GM on your team, and then use your team forum for roster positions, coordinators, etc., and this is imperative ...

Start now.

Unless you have a strong network of agents around you, you can never start recruiting too early. If you look in TLFP, there are threads in there that are a couple of weeks old, and their rosters are still only half filled.

Buy Team.

Start Recruiting.

Good Luck.

Oh, you will get a reduced price if you buy a team now, but will have to pay full price by the end of the season to keep it.

I like to have a team before I start recruiting. Makes it much easier to retain commitments if you give them GM invites to the team they're creating a player for.

I also agree. The price of a team is pro-rated so if you buy around Day 20 you'll have the team to point to when recruiting and won't be out any flex.

Also, the first thing you should do when buying your team is auto-reorder your special teams depth chart (I'm heading off the bug report/FAQ post before it happens).

This!

You MUST perform that step to be able to make ANY adjustments to ANY of your new team's depth charts--the changes won't "take" without that step being performed first. I learned this the hard way when I bought my team.

By buying now, it will give you time to get the AIs set up and ready to go.

You will however have exhausted your chemistry grace period so you will take a hit when you sign everyone. BUT the chemistry for a new team starts at 70 and you will have driven it up to 100 before taking those hits -- then have the off-season to recover some as well -- so you should be ok without the grace period.

Just in case, fill your roster with CPUs now so that you do not take a hit when you cut them.

Day 41, be sure that your roster is empty and that you have requested demoting before then (the link should come up during the post-season). Then Day 42 start signing everyone.

When recruiting outside your circle of agents, tell the recruit how you plan to use their specific player and a little about your philosophy of management. Some may say that recruits do not read PMs. The good ones do.

Make it more than "We desperately need you to play for us" -- Let them know that you have a plan.

If you need someone to build a couple of players, shoot me a PM when you are ready to build.

I disagree with lex. There is nothing wrong with starting in pee wee or casual.

do you have any idea how hard it is to have/keep a good roster of 55 dots in casual if youre not the best team in the league?
