Why for the league standings is it based off of wins and not win percentage? The team I GM for is 5-3-4 (yes, 4 ties somehow) and are ranked under two 6-6 teams. This makes no sense why it would come down to who has more wins than win percentage.

Technically win percentage = 6/12 or .500 and 5/12 or .417. The 4 ties don't just disappear. Now if you want to make it a point system then it might look like 2, 1, 0 which would turn into 14 points for the team with 4 ties and 12 points for the team with no ties; however, wins and win percentage comes out the same way for you here.

I should add here that major sports do use win percentage and count 1/2 games for ties. This is a bit of a misnomer, but valid for what they are trying to complete, and a valid argument for you to make, but......

Because Bort decided it should be based off of wins and not win percentage.

Ya ask a silly question, ya get a silly answer!

...

In all seriousness, though, I guess he wanted to encourage people to play for the win rather than the tie, so wins are worth significantly more than ties, though ties are worth more than losses.

Probably need to work on your Overtime offensive AI, though. If you've been in 4 OT games and ended up tied in all 4 of them, that means you're experiencing some massive offensive fail in OT. Instead of fussing about how the standings are calculated, you should probably work on fixing that O instead. Not trying to be snarky, I'm just pointing it out.

It's all about wins. Not percentage. More wins is better than less losses.

In that scenario, a tie is just as bad as a loss, which it should not be. Sounds like a big to me.

Yeah, but he has a valid point not? Should ties be the same as losses.

Ties aren't the same as losses. His 5-3-4 team would be ahead in the standings of a 5-7 team.

Ties are worth more than losses. And wins are worth more than ties.

McNabb made the call, thought there'd be a 6th quarter...

They're not as bad... they're essentially 1/2 of a loss. 2 teams that have played 5 games... if one has 4 wins and one loss and the other has 4 wins and 1 tie... then the team with the "tie" is better by 1/2 a game in the standings. If one team has 4 wins and 1 loss and the other has 3 wins and 2 ties, then the team with 4 wins is 1/2 game better in the standings. (2 ties = 1 loss... so it boils down to 3 wins vs 4 wins in the same amount of games played... hence 1/2 game difference.)

Ties:

It's somewhat like going to the movies or dinner with your girl and another man, you both split the bill, but nobody really gets the girl.

Wins:

On the other hand, your friend goes to the movies or dinner with his girl alone, pays the bill and gets "desert"!

Who do you think ends up on top?
