CyberNinja is correct... Day 40 to Day 48.
However, nothing wrong with creating a free player right now, playing around with it for the rest of the season, and then retiring it on Day 40 so that you can start over. Remember, it's not just a Free Player... it's a Free Player SLOT. You can only have one player at a time in that slot, but you can retire that dot at any time and replace it with a new free player at any time, as many times as you want.
So, make a free player right now. Play around with it for the rest of the season, get used to the building and training systems, try stuff out, and have fun. Then on Day 41, retire that dot and build a new one to replace it.
