I've never gotten into building defenders, so here's some basic questions:

Wasn't there a Bort quote along the lines of "Blocking attribute helps defenders break blocks"?

Is "catch ball % chance" interchangeable with "intercept chance %"?

Does "intercept chance %" have ANY affect on the odds of DEFLECTING a pass? Or is intercept chance a separate "roll" that is all-or-nothing before moving on the deflect pass "roll"?

Bane you are wrong on the first no. There is such a quote.

I'm confused as to the interception roll. If the attribute "catching" helps with interceptions (at least marginally), how does the "catch ball %" piece differ from the "intercept chance %" piece?

I seem to recall at one point back when I started playing GLB (season 12) DBs could use catch % and stack it with int% pieces (in fact, for those that remember, you could even have pieces with two different +% components)... anyway, either people figured out catch% didn't work on defense or GLB changed something so that it wouldn't work on D--either way, its doesn't.

there's a good Bort description of the receiver-defender interaction somewhere, but looks like the part of the GLB wiki where you could search for Q&A stuff is no longer operational.

from what I recall, it comes down to DBs need vision and jumping to make deflections and catching to make INTs (and it helps to have a little more strength than the receivers)... of course they have to be close enough to interact, and that's where speed and agility come in.

the defenders have two shots at an INT. it goes something like this... defender sees the ball, tried to intercept, if not, tries to deflect. then the receiver tries to catch. if that succeeds, the only thing the defender can do is try for a KL and if not then make a tackle. if the receiver fails to catch it, the defender has another shot at an INT if they are close enough. at least according to the bort quote as I recall. in reality it doesn't seem like there is ever one of those 2nd chance INTs--the pass is either picked off in a jump-the-route sort of way, deflected, caught, dropped or caught and knocked loose--never "wrestled away"

Because the intercept roll is it's own separate roll that is unaffected by Catch Ball%, it includes the Catching attribute, but is not a Catch Ball roll. However, attempting to catch a batted ball is a catch ball roll, it just doesn't happen enough to make a difference.

As has been pointed out to me, if you go to the Skill Points page for a defensive player and hover over Blocking, it does mention that Blocking has a VERY small role in helping you break blocks.

However, the effect is so tiny that it's simply not worth it. There's ALWAYS something better to spend your points on, even if it's just Stamina or Confidence or even Jumping.

So, yeah. Don't put anything into Blocking unless you're intentionally trying to get people to point and laugh at your build.

Could help defensive roled STOP Archtypes though. Is this really true? Am I really going to just take your word for it on this? Yes I am. Why? Because I am lazy.

I don't have any defensive dots, so you should probably hover over "Blocking" yourself just to make sure the pop-up window actually says that. Otherwise, you're literally getting this third-hand, since I got it second-hand.

Again, though... there's gotta be SOMETHING that you can get better value for on your Skill Points, unless of course those STOP dots are going to be playing on all 4 STOP squads and will actually get some use out of having all those points in Blocking.

Nope, I am lazy. I am taking your word as scripture, and I will tell one and all
