If I want to set my safeties only on outside zones will they know to stop the outside rushes of the HB"S,FB"S and QB"s.If nothing is coming their way will they pick up the WR"S? Just curious how zones work.Any info helpful.(Im currently in the rookie leagues)

Zones can be wonky. If only one guy enters their zone, they work pretty much as you would expect. The defender will move to cover the player in their zone. The problems arise when two players enter their zone. They generally will cover the first guy and leave the second guy completely uncovered. If the zone is a small zone, this is not as big of an issue, as they can usually read the pass to the second guy and make a break. However, if you have them in big zones (i.e. Deep Strong Half), this can mean they go to the far side of the zone and be completely out of position.
Zones are also heavily dependent on player's Vision, as the defender has to pass a vision check to leave their default function (standing in the middle of the zone). Rookie league players generally have very bad Vision, and thus may stand in their zone while the RB runs right past them if they fail the vision checks.
IMO, zones are only really useful once a player has decent Vision, Agility, and Speed so that they can read and react quickly; and even then, personally I only like to use them to defend against the deep route or to defend the flats against screens or out runs. Others may disagree tho.

It can be useful in Rookie for run stopping. It's still wonky, but the advantage gained is that you don't have to purely rely on the defender's ability to read the run. If you have the safety moving in the right direction (towards the zone he is assigned to) then you can stop a lot of the behaviors where they trudge inside a bit while the RB or rushing QB flies by to the outside. Eventually the defender passes his vision check, but if if they are too far inside it's far too late. The zone can help with having in a better location.

I have been testing zones on my team with players built as Plankton mentioned above and while sometimes it's nice, most of the time you're better off in man. This is in casual though, you don't get to set your zones there but I'd imagine it's not much better in regular.
Rookie leagues, zone isn't an option. Just don't do it, except for certain run offenses.

i dont know about you but id be pretty impressed seeing a DB cover 2 WRs at once....

I was thinking of Safeties in Deep Half zones. If you use a zone to cover WRs, I can't wait to play your team.

haha exactly.
i only use zones to cover flats/close to flats for rushing QBs. zones dont work as well a man2man so no point in using them.
