I just finished setting up a test environment for our admin team to help us with early pre-alpha related stuff. You may very well even see some teasers soon

Is the QB drop back to pass scripted or is it based on his attributes?

I have seen people advocate passing QB's needing 35 or 40 speed is needed for a QB to drop back and not get caught by a DT while others say it doesn't matter what his speed is since it is scripted

I am not looking for an answer on "you need this much speed", just whether the play is scripted or not

Drop back based on his attributes! The scripted speed is for handoffs on rushes.

Well, last night we were testing and making finishing touches to a cross-game friends list instant messenger type of thing. So if you're playing any of our games, you'll be able to chat with any of your friends on any of of our games

1 to 1 or group-level stuff?

It's just a 1:1 type of thing now, but you can have multiple chats open at once.

I'd guess group could be added, though I think it is likely lower priority.

Is the instant messenger just a split screen on the side?

Well, we have a universal footer at the bottom of every game, that has links to other games, a friends list that you click and it opens a small window at the bottom, and chat that opens from the same place.

Will the new games have separate forums?

Forums are also shared between all of the games. All of the code is handled on a central database and sent to the various games.

To piggyback this. Will GLB main as it currently is just be the centralized place for all games when the new forums hit?

All other games will likely have their own "Main, Suggestions, FAQ" type of forums, but private forums, general discussion, etc will be shared and accessible between all of them.

Will achievements play into all of the games when they hit? You guys have been working forever on that.

I'm going to say probably.

We already have some plans and a bit of code in for some ways to show off achievements.

There's some unlockable visual stuff that will be tied to reaching certain milestones. Stuff you can show off when others view your characters or teams or whatever.

anything else 'cool' that you've devoted hours to?

perhaps an easy to create tournament/league/ladder interface?

One more tidbit, before I have dinner with Pallow.

Without giving out too much information, both of the games we are currently working on have an option to have a more "hands on" approach.

We are attempting to incorporate more "live" types of elements into the new products. Stuff where you can play instant matchups with other players who are also online or get into a game going on in the next hour, etc. A lot of that sort of stuff has been very exciting for me to work on, because it adds a whole other layer of interaction onto the games that GLB is currently lacking with the entire game being pretty much "sit and wait."

I have to say modern browsers that support HTML5 (pretty much all of them now) really are making game development much cooler than it was 5 years ago.

So like a pick up game with your player?

Yeah. Or imagine something like if it were in GLB, something along the lines of where you could play a quick scrimmage against another team owner with live play calling, watching the game run live. Stuff like that.

Of course, we are also including the "sit and wait" type elements as the more casual "core" of the games, but the ability to have more interaction if you've got more time to spend I think is really neat.

oh i see. I thought maybe it was more like a cool thing for an agent with players where they could get their player in a pick up game with other guys. That is neat too though.

Wouldn't rule that out quite yet

Oh yeah, we are definitely doing things along those lines too for solo players. I'm just kinda putting it in context of what we're trying to do.

Can you hint at what sport(s) are coming?

The new games all involve characters who can join teams. A ball or two will probably be involved somewhere.

Does anyone else find it silly to have drop backs based on attributes? Agility, maybe, but speed? Its not a sprint. Its a couple of steps, sideways...

Where does it say anything about speed being the main attribute. I know it factors in at some level. But to answer your main questions, no I don't find it silly. Drop backs are important for any successful QB and as such should be apart of the build process. Hand-offs are Hand-offs, so scripted.

I guess you could always read the tool tip for "Speed" under your QB attribute page....

Guess I could!

Probably should have known that, but doesn't change the overall point. I think it's perfectly acceptable to have attributes affect the QBs ability to drop back.

None of that is important.
