I tried it back a few seasons ago. The QB tended to throw to his favored receivers despite of coverage and check down order, which caused a lot of incomplete passes and a couple of INT's.
It's useful for casual, imo. I could see it for your avoiding CPU example as well.
In regular leagues, where a coordinator can more or less control progressions, I would never use it. It'll only muck with what the coordinator is trying to do.
