Several seasons ago it was posted in the 'projects' that we would have plays for the STs. I have never heard anything more about this?

ALSO:

1. A slider for the returner with some logic for determining when to do a punt return fair catch in crucial situations, i.e., when fumbling would be a game-changer.

Example:

-100 -never fair catch (risky)
100 -fair catch in crucial situations

If crucial situations needed to be defined, use check boxes for the folloing:

fair catch when:

in FG territory in the last two minutes of the half or game
up by six points or less in the last two minutes of the game
defender is with in five yards

There might be a few more situations to define.

Bottom line is that it would be nice to have some logic in the kickoffs and punts.

would also be nice to have some situational choices about when a punter would keep it in bounds vs. not... both 1) to avoid particularly dangerous return squads or 2) if you wanted the return to kill a few more ticks of the clock than kicking it out of bounds would do.

As long as those extra tactics weren't 100% effective and could possibly cause a negative play (shanked punt, for example).

Yes. Perfection should never be a goal or you would eliminate any form of "chance" in the game and it would simply disolve into nothing but math genius against math genius. Random for life!

Why would any one NOT punt OOB if given a choice?

I would like to see the PR be able to set their own radius for fair catching. There is also a big difference between a cover guy 5 yards in from of the PR vs 5 yards off to the side.

Which is why it would have to have a "bad punt % increase" to punts attempted OOB because, if not, there would be absolutely no reason to build returners... ever. Peeps would simply game the system.
