How important is catching to getting picks? i assume aggressive tight coverage..jumping as well..agility? vision? If you were going to make a CB or Safety with the idea of maximizing INT chance what would he look like?

Catching + Vision + +% intercept chance would be your big 3 components, imo.

Catching is pretty important. There are some uber high catching CBs in WL right now but I'd aim for 60-68 on opportunity cost.

Capped strength
40 confidence

+% Make Tackle

I like to refer to this old post for to help understand +% catch versus +% intercept

It is fairly complicated as there are lots of situations, but the general gist is (if I'm the CB):

- I have to see the ball is coming in the first place (vision check)
- I have to get into position near enough the the ball to interact with it (speed/agility etc)
- I have to check if I am even going to get a chance to interact with the ball (Int check? No? Swat check instead?)
- If I'm near the WR, I have to fight with him to see who gets a chance at the ball (my roll vs his roll)
- If I win, I get to intercept or swat the ball. (depends on first roll type that succeeded, and if the WR gives me trouble catching it)
- If I lose, the receiver gets to try and catch the ball. It's all up to him now, though my being close by makes it harder on him.
- If the receiver fails to catch the ball, I get once more chance to try and intercept it if I am close enough.
- If the receiver catches it, now I've got to tackle him. Here's my chance to knock it loose with a good hit.

+% Catch only helps you with catching the ball once you've got through all the checks and you're in position to have that catch attempt. +% intercept is what you want.

Catching/Vision/Jumping by far the important attributes here.

As Romo mentioned +int% gear.
I would venture to say an AF% piece probably not a bad idea either for lowering the power of a fake to get in that perfect position between the WR and QB.

Most important SA is Sticky Hands though some will give mention to Jump Catch, Superior Vision as well. I think some people put too much emphasis on First Step and Change Direction but those aren't terrible thoughts either. Also I do know that a lot of people are down on Shutdown Corner, but I have noticed that a couple of guys that were able to take that up to 9-10 on my last team of INT builds are doing better than the guys who weren't able to get it up.

VA's - Football Genius, Prime Time Player are 2 notable ones.

Some notable open builds to look at:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=4295798 LHF's high catching project.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2494804 My own FS.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2500129 bears rules CB who was part of ESL's intercept group. (2 other CB's, including last seasons WL DMVP and interception leader are on Richey. His build is similar to theirs though I believe G Funky is one of those guys that has higher SDC like I mentioned)

Have they seen the team doctor about this problem?

I'm working on my second attempt at this very thing. I had very good success with my first attempt. Close to what ROMO posted... but a touch less speed, more agility, less catching, more strength and confidence. Also, I made my CB as tall as possible (minus the JD magic formula) so it would help his jumping. Deflect ball was also important (to me, anyways) because Romo is right... catch only helps AFTER you've successfully negotiated the other checks... and "deflecting" the pass comes before making the catch. (I think... anyways). I concentrated on SA's and VA's that effected everything BUT catching until I had what I wanted... and even then I only had INT % for help there (along with catching as a skill).
I suspect I can make him better this time (which is why I'm doing it again) as I feel I can move a few SP's around to make it work better.

good stuff...minus whodey's erectile problems..

this roll would seem an important one to win....i would think agility, vision, jumping..strength? maybe..height perhaps?

I would assume a tall light CB would be the best choice for this?

That's my thoughts. I reckoned it this way. A short CB (usually what people choose for speed gains) would need much more jumping than a tall one (I'm guessing around +20 in the skill). While I have NO proof this is true, it would seem awfully weird if a dot's height DIDN'T factor into deflecting passes. I knew when I built the CB I'm working on (and my earlier attempt) that I would be sacrificing speed for jumping AND vision gains (taller dot) and wondered how that would effect his ability to cover. How it worked out was, while the 158 speed, short WR could out-run him... the QB usually has to throw the ball SOONER than it takes for that WR to get clear enough to make a clean catch. On replays, my CB would always seem to be about a half step behind... but always got the deflection. That sold me on trying this a second time. This time with some subtle changes in the skills (and I changed the archetype from Combo to Hard Hitter... I liked the HH's tree better)... I'm hoping to have a better INT CB. Even IF he doesn't INT a ton of passes... if he simply deflects as many or more than his predecessor, then I'll be VERY happy with the build.

I would never want an 80 vision (or 6 strength for that matter) coverage CB. That build leaves A LOT to be desired.
