Uniform numbers have always been a part of the game but they have never served any real purpose or point.
What I am suggesting is that for players that have uniform numbers like for example a DT numbered as 99, in the replay instead of showing him as DT it would say 99. This would speed up player recognition as you watch your replays. Once you knew your team well, you could glance at a play at the snap and know who is lined up in what position and as you watched it, it would have the same effect as displaying all the names simultaneously.
This would be really useful on watching special teams replays.
It's just a faster way to analyze one player's performance without taking route of focusing only on their plays in sequence. Even when I do that, sometimes I find it necessary to pause the action and find the player before proceeding (that's usually a CB or LB or sometimes s WR which presents that issue).
For any dot numbered "0" the position would be displayed as it is now, by position.
