Looks like he calculated a waypoint to pick up the HB that was REALLY bad. When the pass happened he was out of position and didn't have the agility to get into the play.
As much as most of us don't like it, dots behave rather stupidly early on. This is nothing new and no secret.
i agree it happens..not sure why though. There outta be a max bad calculation that isnt so ridiculous. Same should apply to the guys running off the field and stuff. I mean with man coverage he outta be heading toward his man..not into some no mans land...
lol what wrong with that?!? ...that's the norm for builds starting out in PW ...coordinators almost need to keep 2 or 3 sets of AIs just to stay on top of how dots evolve as they progress through their first season
Looks like he thought pass was going to be over thrown and was in position for the pick 6 INT but HB jumped and made spectacular catch making SS look stupid.
As a long time DC...since season 1...who's watched no doubt 1000's of replays, I can honestly say that something in general is goofy with the SS position. They do the weirdest shit

Not just SS's... but most DB's in a "zone". While not all the time it happens, I've seen enough over the years to wonder about certain actions a dot in zone coverage takes. Mostly, it works fine... but every now and then it does something like this (thread's OP) and makes people post as bugs or at least wondering about WHY what happened happened. I'll go out on a limb here and guess that, in man2man coverage, vision checks are concentrated on the dots he's covering and the QB. But a dot in zone coverage is making checks on EVERY dot near his zone and the QB. The extra "checks" are possibly causing occasional confusion and, hence, wonky plays like this one.
(EDIT; Although the OP says his dot was in man2man coverage of the HB, I still believe that DB's have more "strange replays" than any other dots on the field.)
