I have it on my pHB, http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=2494446 , and I think it sucks. Every time it fires, he seems to slow down right after it fires because it puts him in a bad spot and he adjusts. Or it doesnt fire often enough with it at 10 for me to see any obvious benefit for having it. I would say 8/10 times, their is barely a noticeable speed burst. the other 2 times, its really not that much speed, and he just slows down right after it anyways (as noted above). Whats the point in having it?

I cant find much info on WikiGLB about it or anything that Bort/Catch have said. I thought i read once that it gives a bonus to some break tackle SA's, like Power Thru/Lower the Shoulder, but I cant find anything to support that. Edit: I also havent noticed this to be true based off of watching his numerous replays.

Whats other peoples experiences with this? Largely the same as mine?

I don't like Surge. I would go with hurdle over surge for a powerback.

Maybe try a low agility, high strength/speed bruiser build loaded with surge and FS to compensate for the lack of agility acceleration?

when would the FS be helpful? I don't think it fires during the handoff exchange

First Step won't help on many HB runs because handoffs are scripted.


tpaterniti swears by Surge, but I'm not particularly impressed with it. It has nothing to do with break tackle SAs in any case.

surge is pretty nice, hits the hole a bit faster.

not sure what you want from it, doesn't turn the dude into juggernaut.

Good point. Um, what if I tried to save face and said something like if the guy has really low agility maybe he hits zero speed on a cut and then needs the FS to spring out of it?

Yea...really. You make jumping a part of your build process. Most power backs run thru the Dline who have very low jumping so it helps avoid those diving tackles. A power back should already have a great "beak tackle" build and hurdle is considered a broke tackle so it helps there too.

People get turned off by Hurdle because they use it on their elusive backs who get tackled by CB's and safeties who have really high jumping and the HB is built to fake so they dont see hurdle activate that often.

Haven't they said that first step triggers after broken tackles where the dot slows down?

I have seen dots warp from surge hitting the line, and I am pretty sure from first step after hitting it, and then there is the two yard dive for yards warp. They all look the same to me though, teleporting the dot about three dot widths down field.

As for how much its worth it, I dunno. When I had it on dots the dots were not very good so it was hard to say what was and was not working.

How high do you have to get jumping to make hurdle work?

Only if its an almost stop on the bt. (EDIT: if you dont have the speed animation script on greasemonkey, the below stuff will be hard to parse through)

So, 2/8 plays, Surge gave a tangible speed bonus. Even then, its questionable as to whether or not the speed bonus is even worth it since it might put him in a bad situation (like sleeping with that nasty girl who looks good because of beer goggles). Is there a way to get a refund of the SP's i put into it? Maybe switch to hurdle??? Please???
