I have an idea on how to make a Draft system that could be interesting, useful and also help boost midseason trading.
Would anyone be interested in joining a system where they put players forward to be drafted in return for draft picks and also can trade picks as part of player trades?
Here is what I have in mind... post your thoughts or PM if you prefer.
Players sign themselves and one or more teams join up for the Draft by some decision point. When they sign up they pledge specific players to the draft. A Player must commit at least one player per Team he places in the draft.
Teams that are signed up for the draft get to contract players through the draft.
A Player gets as many Draft Picks as Players he commits to the draft each season. The Round of the Draft pick depends upon the age of the player as of Day 40 (Age 275+ = First Round Pick, 180-274 Second Round Pick, 140-179 Third Round Pick, 100 to 139 Fourth Round Pick, 60 to 99 Fifth Round Pick, 20-59 Sixth Round Pick, 0 to 20 Seventh Round Pick. Conceivably we could have a Non Booster Rookie for a Round 8 pick for Pee Wee teams. But I think Boosted players would make the system more desirable and easier to balance.
Not yet created Players may be used to commit for the draft, but must be made by the time of the draft to be allowed to make the picks. Players committed must have an open build for 24 hours prior to the Draft to obtain their pick.
Teams will pick in order of League and rankings within the league group (top to bottom as shown on the league page with World Pro and Casual Pro rating co-equal to National Pro and Rookie Leagues picking over Pee Wees and all Pee Wees picking together). Ranking will be done by standing in their conference, with tie breaker being regular season winning percentage and then total points allowed and then seniority of team number. One entire pass through from World/Nat/Casual Pro through Pee Wee would be one Round. Each Player would get to choose one dot per his personal Draft pick. There would be as many rounds as needed until there are no more Agents with Draft Picks.
Players who are drafted must sign a 3 Season Tradable Contract with the team that selects them in the draft and must do so before the end of Day 45 (if the contract has been sent). If the player does not sign his contract in time then he is banned from the next draft unless he proffers reasonable excuse.
If no contract is received by Day 48, the player is released from the draft if he chooses.
Players that are drafted are required to play with due diligence. They must wear equipment, train, upgrade, boost, etc in the normal course. If a drafted player is not in compliance then the Draft Team owner may post a complaint in the Draft forum which may result in the Drafted Player's Agent being banned from the next Draft, or Drafts depending upon the level of offenses (ie if he pledges 4 new dots and does nothing with all four he may be banned for four seasons or permanently etc).
Future Trade Picks can be Traded among players within the Draft for whatever reason but would be expected to be as part of a player trade between teams. This should be posted in the Draft Forum.
